In bug 758857, after coordinating with the Wikimedia's web operations
team, I updated Firefox's Wikipedia search plugin to use HTTPS instead
of HTTP:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=758857

I only updated the default (en-US) search plugin in mozilla-central for
Firefox desktop and Android. When you have time, please test whether you
can update your locale's wikipedia.xml to work with Wikipedia's HTTPS
search like en-US:

browser/locales/en-US/searchplugins/wikipedia.xml

mobile/locales/en-US/searchplugins/wikipedia.xml

My change landed in Firefox Nightly 35, though I may ask to uplift it to
Aurora 34.

Please do not change any other search plugins to HTTPS until we
coordinate with each search partner. The tracking bug for the other
search plugins (Amazon, Bing, and eBay) is bug 771788.

thanks!
chris

Please hold on on this change until I send a message out on the correct
procedure, thanks.

Reminder: searchplugins are subject to productization rules, don't make
changes without explicit approval or instructions from l10n-drivers.

Hi everyone,
I filed a tracking bug for this update.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1069123

What to do:

1. Update Wikipedia URLs to use https instead of http, on both /browser
(Firefox Desktop) and /mobile (Firefox for Android). Make sure you
update all URLs (there are 3 for each .xml file).
2. You can add extra images for about:newtab like en-US did [1] in bug
1026298, *ONLY* on Desktop, *NOT* on mobile.
3. Land the update on mozilla-aurora and l10n-central (if you're
working there), referencing the tracking bug in your commit to make
sign-off reviews easier. For the same reason land this change alone,
don't mix it with changes to unrelated files.
4. Comment in the tracking bug adding a link to the changeset.

You can see an example here for Italian (it)
http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/l10n/mozilla-aurora/it/rev/c8b8ef6bf096

Next cycle I'll start fixing locales which are still using http:// on
mozilla-aurora.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Francesco
