testing a dummy greek bonecho nsis installer?

I could use someone testing a dummy version of a greek nsis installer.
It'd be useful to have that so that we can see if we have charset problems.
Hey to brave Kostas for having that file localized, that helps a quite a
bit. Esp since greek seems to be one of the real trick questions [1].
The installer is at

Note, this is a personal build, it contains traces of nuts, please don't
use this build for anything but testing the installer.
I'm esp curious to see reports on this on a greek version of windows,
and to see comparisons in terms of charset issues to the 1.5 installer
on as many versions of windows as possible.
I have tested both the 1.5.0.4 and my test, the 1.5.0.4 displays
garbage, the nsis one has empty screens.
I'll look at testing the polish version tomorrow, as that has its
charset specified in the nsis source, in contrary to the greek one.
Sadly our polish localization is a tad on crack, I need to fix that,
which I don't do tonight.

[1] NSIS 2.17 Greek.nlf doesn't specify a charset, which I think means
CP1252, but uses CP1253, just as our locale needs. I'll try a patched
version of NSIS tomorrow, too.

As far as I understand, NSIS is not a Unicode application; it uses 8-bit
encodings. Therefore, in Windows XP, et al, if you do not set properly
the fallback 8-bit encoding properly, you get this bug that you cannot
read the text of the installer (see comment #4 at the bug above).
This means that the Greek version of Windows XP is able to indeed show
correctly the installer translations. However, non-Greek versions of
Windows XP normally have a different fallback encoding, therefore the
text is unreadable.
I would like to stress here that the issue is with the installer only;
if someone installs the Greek Firefox while the installer shows garbage
in the text, the installed Firefox shows perfectly good Greek messages.
Therefore, I think that it would be good for someone to try the
installer (just the first screen) if they have non-Greek versions of
Windows XP. If it shows latin-1 characters (english letters with
accents), then the problem still exists. I'll try on my system when I
reboot to Windows.. :)

Great, I am replying to myself :).
It looks that you are using the Nullsoft installer already (NSIS), which
is Unicode-ready?
On the top of my head I would say it would be better to have the Greek
messages in Unicode (UTF-8).
I'll test and come back with a more thoughtful answer.
