Creating Langpacks for Firefox 2.0

our locale (ku, Kurdish) will not be one of the official builds of
Firefox 2. However, we would love to have installable XPIs ready when
Firefox 2 comes out. Our translation is fairly complete anyway.
Until now Axel has sometimes helped out and build us a XPI-langpack
when we requested it. To be more flexible we would like to make them
ourselves. I have looked at
http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Creating_a_Language_Pack. Do I
understand it correctly that I have to build the whole Firefox from
source first to create a langpack afterwards?
If so, I was not able to do it. The compilation stops every time after
about 20 minutes with some error messages. Should I post them here for
help or is there a better mailinglist/forum for that?
Or is there another way to create a langpack?
