Hello!
It's been a while since my last update on B2G l10n. Here are the
highlights:
- Bucket 2 string freeze on Nov 15; final l10n deadline: Dec 17.
- HG's gaia-l10n/en-US has new strings; string freeze broken for some.
- Troubles with testing known; working on fixing them.
- If you find a bug, file it with the 'l12y' keyword.
Schedule updates
----------------
Starting with the biggest news, voilà, the updated schedule:
September 28: Bucket 1 string freeze (done)
November 15: Bucket 2 string freeze
December 17: Final due date for bucket 1 & 2
Refer to
https://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:B2G for the list of apps and
components in each bucket.
Note that the deadline for bucket 1 has been extended and is now the
same as the one for bucket 2. This should makes things clearer and less
confusing.
en-US files updated
-------------------
I pushed an update to the en-US file in Mercurial.
https://hg.mozilla.org/gaia-l10n/en-US/rev/e428ebd17a6e
This includes changes to bucket-2 apps, as well as a few changes to the
string-frozen bucket-1 apps.
The stats now look like this:
strings words
en-US 1281 3813
Bucket 1 string freeze breaks
-----------------------------
There have been a few string breaks over past weeks which I r+'ed. They
were mostly about adding strings, so the dashboard should let you find
these strings easily.
As a reminder, you can find the comparison for your locale on elmo:
https://l10n.mozilla.org/teams/pt-BR
Look for 'gaia' or 'gaia-community' (and substitute your locale code for
'pt-BR').
Some locales have not been yet added, and I opened a pull request to
make sure Elmo has comparisons for them:
https://github.com/Pike/master-ball/pull/4
In the meantime, use 'compare-dirs /path/to/en-US /path/to/locale'.
I also discovered two cases of string freeze breaks without changes to
the identifier of the affected string. I filed bugs and submitted
patches, so they should be fixed soon.

Testing using the desktop builds
--------------------------------
I know there have been issues with testing localizations using the
desktop builds. We're working on resolving them. Currently, I suspect
the following bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=796079
Other people have also reported problems with the desktop builds. You
may want to check the following list of bugs to see if you ran into any
of these issues:

Gecko localization
------------------
No news right now, but I have the follwing bug on my list for this week
and hopefully I'll know more about toolkit strings and how they're used
in B2G soon.

What to do if you found a localizability bug?
---------------------------------------------
If you find a typo, a badly phrased string or a string that cannot be
translated to your language easily or at all, please do file a bug in
Boot 2 Gecko > Gaia and add the 'l12y' ('localizability') keyword.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Boot2Gecko&keywords=l12y

And that's all for now, folks! Thanks for staying on top of Gaia
localization, it's great to see so much activity across so many locales.
Thanks,
-stas
