Hi everyone,

I want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who has been involved
in localizing Firefox on iOS. I know it's had hiccups, but your
willingness to participate in a project that was bound to have a couple
of hiccups is greatly appreciated.

This month will mark the end of iOS v1 localization. Here are the dates
and milestones to add to your calendars:

*Schedule*
10 Aug. - String freeze and final en-US string export to SVN and Pootle.
14 Aug. - (soft) L10n freeze for Release Candidate build.
28 Aug. - (full) L10n freeze for final Release Candidate build*.

*Testing*
I understand that 5 days is tight. Pootle has sorted out automated
commits into SVN for the iOS project and Dwayne will be watching them
closely. We will have nightly l10n builds available for anyone with an
iOS device and an LDAP account soon in order to lower the barriers to
entry for testing your localization. Details about that will be shared
once they're available. If you do not currently have an LDAP account and
you're localizing Firefox for iOS, email me as soon as possible.

*Sign-offs*
This week I will ni flag you on the original bug you filed to localize
Firefox for iOS (remember that bug? It seems like it was so long ago...)
asking you to comment on your localization's state of ready for
shipping. If you feel that it's ready to ship (you're at 100% complete
on the dashboard, you've tested [or someone else has tested for you] or
you're 100% confident in your translations, etc.), then I'll ask you to
close that bug by *14 Aug*. All those who close their bugs by 14 Aug
will be included in the release build that's made that day. /*14 Aug. is
the day we want to have all l10n complete.*/

If you're on holiday and this message doesn't reach you by the 14th, but
you've been ready to ship and can't wait until 1.1, there will be a
final release build on *28 Aug*. Close your bug before that date, and
you'll ship with the second release build*.

If you have questions, please please please ask. We're happy to answer.

Thank you again,
Jeff

*I would note that there's a tiny chance that a second RC won't be
necessary; in that case the later set of completed locales will go into
the next release. We're planning a fairly fast cadence compared to
desktop or Android, so this shouldn't be too long.

Will there be new TestFlight builds in this window that incorporate
our latest translations? The one I just installed
1.0 (30) is crashing on startup.

Hi Jeff,

thank you for the dates. For Czech, I do the l10n and have LDAP account,
but no iOS device. Vojtěch has iOS device and is testing Firefox for
iOS, but does no l10n and not have LDAP account. Would be the RC build
somehow available for him too?

Cheers
Michal Stanke

P.S. I'll be away between 20 and 30 August, so if you needinfo me in the
Czech bug before, I will report about the l10n state and hopefully catch
also any untranslated string, which might appear before the string freeze.

Wierd 30 works fine for me in iOS 9 Beta 3 on an iPhone 4S guess it should work on iOS 8 aswell, just translated the new strings for Swedish now, so we are done for now if there won't come up anything more looking forward to RC end of the month and release in September as far as i understood :)

soon.

These will be separate from the TestFlight builds. There's some concern
about doing nightly builds for l10n when iOS l10n testers only represent
about 5% of the iOS tester population on TestFlight. These will come
from a specific URL. All you'll have to do is visit the URL within
Safari on your iOS device, enter your LDAP credentials, and it will
download/install the builds. I believe it will auto-update each day as
well. Those will have your latest translations.

We're still sorting out the LDAP issue. Once that's done, we'll send out
the URL. Hopefully within the next few hours.

Yes, it is all coming together now. The LDAP issues have been sorted out.
And we were delayed because we had a nasty crashing bug. I am doing the
first L10N (and TestFlight) build in about an hour probably.

Thanks for your patience :-)

Where can I find "What to Test" info for build 30?

Hi all,

If you have a Mozilla LDAP account, you have access to the nightly l10n
builds at this URL:

https://people.mozilla.org/iosbuilds/l10n.html

These will run nightly, allowing you to see your latest localization
changes the day after you make them. Simply visit the URL in your iOS
device, click to download, enter your LDAP credentials, and it will
fully download to your device. It should also ask you to update each day.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi everyone,

Testing has shown that there are no auto-updates for these nightly
builds. You will have to revisit the URL and manually download the new
builds to your device.

Thanks,
Jeff

Do I understand correctly that those builds are useful only when one wants iterate fast on translations and don't have any other advantages in all other situations (like for problems that need code fix)?

If you notice problems that need a code fix, bringing them up on the
ios-testers mailing list and filing bugs for them are still valid
feedback mechanisms.

Sorry but I don't see how this is related to my question or helps choose builds to test.

These are built with the purpose of rapid testing of l10n changes.

With that in mind, if you notice other issues, this shouldn't preclude
you from filing a bug against this build. The build number (32) is also
there for reference.

Please report all bugs. In general the L10N builds are the same code as the
testflight builds, just with locales more frequently updated.

These Aurora builds are only special in a way that we can do rapid builds
for them. So for example right now we do a daily build. But if you for
example just put in a ton of L10N changes and want to see a new build with
those, just ping me personally and I can push a button to make a new L10N
build with the most recent locales. We can do that multiple times if needed.

Are you actively working on l10n changes? We can start doing daily or

I work on l10n changes for zh-CN.
When the zh-CN merge to the https://people.mozilla.org/iosbuilds/, we
will use this instead.
Because every time I click update, it download ipa from
https://people.mozilla.org/iosbuilds/, not

would be nice if you could sync the .xliff file for Swedish Firefox for iOS before version 1.3 or 1.4 release in the app store as Ludwig fixed some grammatical errors i had caused also it would be nice if @Mike Han or @St3fan could check if they could upgrade the app store page as it looks a bit more professional with the App Store in the right lang :)
