Firefox ESR

Hi,

I crosspost this because it is a matter of governance and localization
resources access.

We finally got Firefox ESR released, but I'm a bit puzzled:
Two French IT Web sites mentioned this AFAIK (silicon.fr and
itespresso.fr) with direct download links − these sites have not wide
public audience. So I wanted to see the download page on mozilla.org. I
had to search for five minutes to finally find a FAQ page with download
en-US links at the very bottom of the page.
Those download links are only en-US.
Candid questions:
- Does Mozilla want to hide this ESR release?
- Are our users so stupid they can't choose the release that fit them best?
- Is there a plan to have an ESR download page with localized packages
(as in http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html) easily reachable?

For the time being, we plan to add an ESR Firefox download section in
our local community portal with the localized links and a brief
explanation for this release, a blog post and annoucements on the
various local forums.

For the locales, the pattern for downloads are:
http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-10.0esr&os=win&lang=en-US
http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-10.0esr&os=osx&lang=en-US
http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-10.0esr&os=linux&lang=en-US
http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-10.0esr&os=linux64&lang=en-US
Just replace en-US with your locale code.

Johnath covers the salient points nicely, and we'd much prefer that we
localize the content we have on Mozilla.org instead of re-creating it
on community sites. If the l10n teams have the time to translate the
ESR landing page and FAQ, that would be an amazing and very much
appreciated contribution.

We're adding an "all" page for the ESR (see bug 722780 -
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=722780) to address the
confusion around getting localized builds, and hope to have it in
place early next week.

There's no malice intended around any of this, and I would be super
happy to see more l10n teams translate the ESR content on mozilla.org.
We want people who deploy Firefox to be aware of the ESR, and to also
join the community we hope to build around it (e.g. the Enterprise
Working group - https://wiki.mozilla.org/Enterprise). If the community
portal could direct people to localized landing pages, that'd be a
very good thing, in my mind.

I want to follow this up and say that if you're a localizer and you're
trying to decide to work on an ESR web page or a regular Firefox web
page (or pretty much any other Mozilla web page,) ESR is very likely the
less important of the two.

ESR content will be seen by very few people and those people are well
trained in managing software. Our other content is seen by very many
people and those people are "regular folks" who aren't trained in
managing software.

Also, no one should feel obligated to localize ESR content.
