Hello there,

Fashion your Firefox
<https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fashionyourfirefox/> was
released without localization. Was it planned this way or it's a
mistake? I thought we were going to be notified with time to do the
translations.

The problem with this kind of things is that they get lot of press
coverage in all countries, and if the users show it's just in English,
they don't return or the press don't speak anymore about it even if a
translation is done after.

Regards.

FAQ here states that it will be available in languages other than English in
the future:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/pages/fashionyourfirefox_faq
Looking forward to hear detail about it.

My concern is that extensions listed is not truly "local"; LinkedIn or
Facebook does not dominate every market in the world. Localize this page
wouldn't help that, provide a localized list might help a bit only.

Does anyone have any insight about bootstraping extension developing
community in your own country? Are there any satisfying extension ecosphere
for markets other than the US? I know that Fx is quite successful in Europe,
is this an important contributing factor?

Best,

Tim

In the case of Japan... (just FYI)

AMO should provide functionality of search/displaying locales for each
extensions (bug 285850). For now, we at Mozilla Japan maintain our own
list of add-ons available in Japanese (bug 358147, 427323).
https://addons.mozilla.jp/firefox/

I know there are similar sites around the world:
http://moztw.org/firefox/extension_top_15/
http://addons.sociz.com/firefox
http://update.mozilla.or.kr/addons/
http://www.erweiterungen.de/
http://extensions.geckozone.org/Firefox/
http://mozillapl.org/baza_rozszerzen/
http://www.extenzilla.org/

I have searched AMO with Google and found 100+ Japanese authors.
While about half of them are still in the sandbox, that's a big enough
community. We're developing a plan to expand the ecosystem:

* Providing a simple getting-started guide
* Newsletters (or blog) both for authors and end users
* Getting in touch with authors who are active outside AMO
* Recruiting reviewers
* Add-ons contest
* Improving the a.m.j site (e.g. multiple add-ons installation!)
etc.
