Hi,

For some locales there's a new batch of snippets to localize for
January/February 2014. The deadline for this localization is February 6,
2014.

In case you don't know what snippets are, they're small pieces of text
displayed in the Firefox default homepage (about:home), right below the
search field.

In the past (starting from last September)we filed individual bugs for
each locale to get these snippets localized. This time we decided to
change things up and test a new method: use SVN to store snippets, the
Web dashboard to monitor progress, and Pontoon to localize them. This is
a great opportunity to test drive Pontoon with a real project, so we
encourage you to use it and report any issues you find in the process.

List of locales requested: cs, de, el, es-ES, fr, hu, id, it, ja, ko,
pl, pt-BR, ru, sr, vi, zh-cn, zh-tw
Number of snippets to localize: 4
Deadline: February 6, 2014

In the next minutes you'll see a warning in your dashboard about these
missing strings:
https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/webdashboard/

Next week we'll start filing individual bugs,in case localization hasn't
started yet.

*USING PONTOON*
1. Permission to localize is automatically granted only to members of
the l10n group on Mozillians, so join it:
https://mozillians.org/search/?q
<https://mozillians.org/search/?q=l10n>=l10n
<https://mozillians.org/search/?q=l10n>

2. Log in to Pontoon with Persona using the same email address you use
on Mozillians:
https://pontoon.mozillalabs.com/en-US/

3. Oncelogged in, you should be able to select "snippets" from the list
of projects and click on your locale.

4. That will take you to the translation view with Firefox homepage and
the first snippet loaded. Hover and click to edit and press Enter to save.

5. To switch to another snippet, select it from the menu in the main
toolbar at the bottom of the screen (black).

6. When you're done, click your email address on the right side of the
toolbar, select Commit to SVN and provide your SVN email and password.

*FALLBACKS*
If you don't want to use Pontoon and you have SVN access, you can clone
and work directly on the repository:
https://svn.mozilla.org/projects/l10n-misc/trunk/snippets/LOCALE

If you don't have a SVN account and prefer to use a bug as before, ping
:flod (or ask here) and we'll file a bug for your locale.

But again, we encourage you to give Pontoon a chance and tell us how to
improve it :-)

*OTHER LOCALES*
The engagement team usually requests a specific set of locales for this
project, sometimes with different snippets for different groups of
locales. As usual, your webdashboard is fundamental to know if there's
work to do, so please keep an eye on it or, even better, subscribe to
the RSS feed.

If you have any questions or concerns, ask on the mailing list or on IRC
#l10n. <https://l10n.etherpad.mozilla.org/ep/search?query=l10n.>

Hi,

I’m in the l10n Mozillians group, but Pontoon still tells me that „You
don't have permission to localize.“

Also, a question about the first snippet:

> The new Firefox Home on Android helps you navigate the Web quickly.
> <a>Install Firefox for Android today</a>!

I don’t understand the „Firefox Home on Android“ part. What does it mean?

Thanks and regards

Michael

Hi Michael,
I'll have Matjaz checking the permissions.

"Firefox Home on Android" refers to the new "Home screen",

Michael, I've given you permission manually, could you please try if you
can localize now?

Did you join the l10n group before or after logging in to Pontoon?

Hi Matjaž,

thanks, I can log in now. The translation is done, however, when I try
to commit to SVN my SVN username (e-mail address) and password are
rejected (Oops, something went wrong).

Also, when switching between snippets, the translation sometimes gets
lost (I couldn’t reliably reproduce that). And the <a> elements are not
turned into links (not sure if they’re supposed to).

Regards

Michael

Hey Michael,

You are now officially the first non-tester (sorry flod), who translated a
project with Pontoon! :-) Congrats!

If you type HTML elements inline, <'s and >'s are converted to &lt; and
&gt;, maybe that's what happened. To keep links, you should either keep
original links and edit them inline or open advanced mode (by dragging the
toolbar up or clicking the icon on the far right) and type <a>'s in the
appropriate field. I did that for you so all links looks ok now.

I was able to commit to SVN for you, but I need to look at the logs to see
what happened.

Just for the sake of debugging permissions: did you perhaps join the l10n
group after logging in to Pontoon? Because in this case we didn't give you
permission, for now we only do that when user is created. Sorry. ;)

Thanks, I’ll test that and try to remember it next time.

No, I guess I joined the l10n group shortly after creating my Mozillians
profile. I don’t think I logged in to Pontoon before.

Thanks. This Pontoon instance was only set up last week so your account was
definitely created today. I'll investigate further what happened, because I
can see that 4 other people were able to log in and got permission
instantly.

Hey guys!

After I finished translating my snippets, I clicked on the 'Commit to SVN' option and it asked for my username and password... I didn't remember my SVN password so I tried a default one, but it didn't work... After that, everytime I click on "Commit to SVN" it keeps telling me that "There is something wrong.". I'm pretty sure I used the wrong password, but, the problem is that I can't change neither the username or password I used on the first try :(

Marcelo,

I have manually reset your SVN username and password. Could you try again?

Hi Matjaz,
I can try, but, what if I use the wrong password again? ;/
I'm not sure what password I should use, since I change my password every 3
months...
Is there any website where I can "recovery" my SVN password? I tried to
find it but it didn't work out ;/

Thank you!!

You can try as many times as you want and if the password is wrong, log in
prompt should show up again. Just make sure you *don't* have the "Remember
me" option checked.

You might be able to reset your password here:
https://passwordreset.mozilla.org/

Or a bug can be filed like this one:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=952279

I see that you made it, thanks!

And thanks for spotting the bug - your credentials should only save if they
are actually correct.
