Hi guys,

Flash news to keep everybody in the loop.

As you know, mozilla.com is going multilingual for the first time and we
will get the final content to be localized this week (the 19 or 20). It
means that all the pages a Firefox user can meet, which are currently
on Mozilla Europe's server (or its alias Mozilla World), Mozilla Japan
and China servers will now be on mozilla.com. In total, that's 9 pages
of content.

Mozilla Europe current product pages will be updated to match the
English product pages on mozilla.com but will not be moved for the
Firefox 2 launch (it will be done a bit later). It means that European
languages with full support on Mozilla Europe pages will have 5 more
pages to update.

A few informations about it :

- Firefox user touchpoints are about 9 pages of text, several of them
short, a couple of them longer with a small Faq list.

- Wil Clouser is working on the mozilla server to set up SVN accounts
for website localizers and a staging server, that is something similar
to what we've been using successfully on Mozilla Europe for more than 2
years. SVN access and a staging server will allow localizers to keep
their pages up to date over time without too much red tape.

- Since SVN accounts are not ready yet, I will prepare an archive with
the English pages to be localized. I will open a bug and attach the
archive to the file as soon as I have finished packaging it. If you want
an SVN account to localize your language pages, mail me at
pascal.chevrel AT free.fr

- We will work with extremely basic xhtml pages, which means that there
will be be a very limited number of xhtml tags in the text (which is
what most localizers working on Mozilla Europe already know). The only
important thing is to use a UTF8 capable editor.

-the deadline is mid-October. Currently the release date for Firefox 24,
but we all know that it would be one week more or one week less,
depending on the difficulty to fix the last blocking bugs, so let's be
optimistic and assume that it will be a week less ;)

I think there is enough work for 2 or 3 people per language, you really
shouldn't hesitate to ask help from your community since translating
these pages requires almost no specific computer skills, anybody with
good writting skills is welcome. This is particulary true for the
smaller communities, if you are the only one translating Firefox,
Thunderbird, Nvu, Calendar and Openoffice for your language, ask for
help and don't hesitate to contact me if you think you can't make it!

If you need to contact me, I am almost always connected in the #l10n and
#europe channels with the nick 'pascalc' and I can be reached by AIM
with the nick pascalchevrel, don't hesitate in contacting me directly
and ask questions.

That's all for today :)

One small precision for current Mozilla Europe active members that
already have an svn account, we don't share yet accounts and server
infrastructure between mozilla europe and mozilla.com, the svn accounts
that will be created in mozilla.com are different ones from those you
already have for Mozilla Europe.

To simplify things, I advise you to use the same login than what you
have now for mozilla europe, since you can reset your password from your
CMS account, you will be able to set it to what mozilla.com will give you.

In case you also want to change of login, I can cancel your current
account in Moz-Eu and recreate a new one.

Sssooo, are we there yet? I.e. where are those pages we need to
translate? Or have I overslept your announcement?..
