[Fx4 Special, Mobile] Spark, the social game, 475 strings -- Opt in here

Hello all,

Me again :) Alright, this is the last one for today and probably for
a few more days too. Thanks for bearing with me =^^=.

Let's switch the context and talk about mobile. I hereby present to
you Firefox Spark, a social game designed around sharing the link to
a Firefox for Mobile download. The machanics are rather simple: by
clicking your link, your friends will make your Spark grow, which in
turn will unlock badges (achievements!) and will make you level up.
There's also a global visualization of the shares between cities in the
world.

It's actually pretty neat and I personally love the design of the site,
too. Please have a sneak peek here:

http://l10n.mozilla.org/~stas/fx4special/spark1.png

This project is bigger than the ones I posted about earlier
today/yesterday. It's 475 strings in the messages.po file (3,300
words) and then another file, geo.po, with names of the countries and
cities. I'll try to see if we don't have the geo names translations
somewhere already. For now, please focus mostly on messages.po which
is frozen and will not change any more (geo.po might still change).

The project is now on Verbatim:

https://localize.mozilla.org/projects/spark/ [1]

and in SVN:

https://svn.mozilla.org/projects/l10n-misc/trunk/spark/

Opt in
======

Please opt in in this thread and we will set you up with all that you
need to localize Spark.

The due date for the localizations is Monday, March 21st. That's 2.5
weeks from now.

You might also be interested in knowing that the game will go on for
about 6 weeks, so even if you don't make it for the initial launch, it
might still make sense to add you locale for the remaining 5 or
4 weeks. Please talk to us and we will figure out the best strategy.

I will post more details when a staging site is set up.

For now, if you have any questions or comments, please reply in this
thread or ask in #l10n. I should be able to respond to most questions
about the mechanics, so if you're interested, let me know :)

Take care,
-stas

Just to provide some help with the translations, let me give some
guidelines:

- It's OK to localize the name of the campaign/game. If you want to,
you can translate 'spark' to your language. Or, you can leave in in
English.

- You will notice that sometimes the word 'spark' is capitalized as
'Spark', and sometimes it's written all in lowercase. The difference
is the owner. If it's possessive, e.g. 'your Spark' or
'{{username}}'s Spark', in English it's spelled with a capital 'S'.
If it's simply 'a spark,' it's all lowercase.

- Please focus on messages.po for now.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,
-stas

I'm pulling countries from

example: http://svn.mozilla.org/libs/product-details/json/regions/en-US.json

By the way here's my 2c of spam:

why not set up the opt-in and opt-out/subscriber groups? By now it's
clear for instance that sl and me will come and dance on every party
Staš may decide to invite us to. And theres some more "usual
suspects", like it, fr, de, cn-TW, sq, he ... You may even make it
into something like Tom Sawyer's fence: "...you may join the group of
selected subscriber languages only after successfully finishing x
opt-in projects..."

I for one would be a candidate for the opt-out anyhow. On a condition
of course it's not anything beyond say 4000 words.

Regards and I have downloaded the two files from SVN already,

Any update on this? I’ve just finished the German localization of the
messages.po (it now awaits proofreading), but the geo.pl isn’t ready yet.

It’s okay with me if we have to do the translation of the geo.pl
ourselves, but if so, I’d like to get it done before the next project’s
localization starts. So I’d be grateful for an update on this. ;-)

I just tried that, and it works great. After some small corrections,
I’ve now got a completely localized geo.po. I’ll check it for errors and
if none are found, I’ll try to updload that file.

Thanks for the advice!

Hey Coce,

I'm waiting for a new version of this file, and right now I know that
it will be significantly different from the current one.

We will use the AMO's JSON files to provide localized country names
(and for locales that are not in [1] I'll use the transaltions that
Toni linked to).

Instead, the geo.po file will contain names of major cities around the
world, but the exact list has not been yet determined, unfortunately.
I don't think translating these city names will be critical, FWIW.

Yeah, I get it. I'll post here again as soon as I know more about the
city names.

Hi Staś,
do we have a stage server for this? Apart for the nice screenshot, it
would be nice to have a website so see (even if it doesn't work
properly) so I can have an idea of where the strings go precisely, so I
can better review the translation our localizers have made.

thanks,

Hey,

I want to opt-in for Turkish translation, but, I don't know how to

I use linux (openSUSE 11.4), if that is related to my question.

Ok, let me help you.

You need to go to Verbatim (http://localize.mozilla.org), select Spark,
Turkish and start localizing right away! :)

There is no localized release of FF Mobile for sq.
