Hi everyone,

It’s the time of the year when the Foundation kicks-off its fundraising
campaign! The fundraising campaign is critical for Mozilla and we need
your help to reach as many people as possible. This year we want to take
advantage of the impact we had with the Copyright campaign in the EU to
increase the conversion rate for our top locales in Europe.

Like previous years, the campaign ends on December 31, so most of the
content will be open to localization soon. Some parts might be localized
early next year, like a thank you message for instance, but the bulk of
the campaign will happen during November and December. Here is an
overview of the campaign:

The campaign will have several pieces including emails, social media
posts, snippets and donate.mozilla.org. You can already translate it
here https://pontoon.mozilla.org/projects/fundraising/ . The donate form
is critical for the campaign, so if you need to prioritize your work,
you should probably prioritize this part. And even if you have already
translated the website, you might want to check if it’s still okay in
your locale (I fixed a few things for French). Translations for the
website are pushed regularly to production.

I’ve enabled a few locales on Pontoon that were missed last year: bn-IN,
da, dsb, gu-IN, hi-IN, hsb, ml, nb-NO, nn-NO, te, th.
If your locale is not yet enabled and you would like to translate the
website, please ping me or request the project through Pontoon.

The donate form will stay more or less the same this year, but we will
add new pages to the website:

- A donation FAQ, an updated version of https://wiki.mozilla.org/Donate
(~1100 words)

- A Ways to Give webpage, based on https://wiki.mozilla.org/Ways_to_Give
(~300 words)

- A Case to Give webpage (~500 words), to provide examples of why it’s
important to give to Mozilla.

The 3 pages are set to be published in December, and strings should be
exposed this week or next, allowing you two weeks for translation. I
will provide either a preview of the pages on a staging server, or
mockups/screenshots if it’s not ready.

Some parts will be exposed only to a subset of locales:

- Snippets: mostly reusing snippets for last year, potentially new ones
to come.

- Emails: sent in December

- Social media posts: ~10 posts, will be ready for localization this
week, with a deadline set on November 28th.

Thanks a lot for all the work you’ve already done, and let’s rock this
campaign!

Cheers,
Théo

Hi,

I’ve just exposed the strings for social media posts for de, fr, en-GB,
es, it, nl, pt-BR

Note that many strings are quite close to the limit of 116 characters,
so if your translation doesn’t fit it’s no big deal, just use as much
space as you need and we will post it on Facebook only. If it can fit,
then we will post is on Twitter as well.

We don’t have the images that will be used with some of the strings, but
it shouldn’t impact the translation too much as I don’t see any
reference to an image or play words.

*Deadline*: November 28th
*Pontoon*: https://pontoon.mozilla.org/projects/engagement/
*GitHub*:
https://github.com/mozilla-l10n/engagement-l10n/tree/master/en-US/social/2016/fundraising.lang

Théo

Hi,

We just pushed the FAQ and Ways to give pages:

https://donate.mofostaging.net/faq
https://donate.mofostaging.net/ways-to-give

The Case to give one will be available later.

*Pontoon*: https://pontoon.mozilla.org/projects/fundraising/
*GitHub*: https://github.com/mozilla/donate.mozilla.org/tree/master/locales

Would be great to have those two completed by early December but even if
you complete them later, translations will be pushed to production
regularly (and most of the content will be reused next year as well).

As always, let me know if you have questions!

Cheers,
Théo

Hi Théo,

Following the German translation of the new pages I have a few questions:

> The Case to give one will be available later.

When is „later“ and how long will this page be?

How much more content do we need to expect for the Fundraising project?

Will Mozilla make sure there will be no updates during Christmas time?

Thanks,

Michael

The page is approximately 500 words, but we’re actually considering not
publishing it. Or making it opt-in if we publish it.

- 2 emails, I should have the copy over the next two weeks.

- A few snippets, including what we call the “spectacular” snippet (a
very visible snippet ran only during the last few days of the campaign).
We should have those snippets ready before the all-hands.

- A takeover on mozilla.org homepage, but this has been localized last
year so we will be able to reuse existing translations.

Yes, we should have exposed everything by early December. You will
receive the test emails probably mid December, or right after the
All-Hands if we have the copy next week (just to check everything is
ok), and that should be it :)

If we plan to send a thank you message to donors, it will happen in
January, not during Holidays. Also, the Foundation is off between Dec
25th and until Jan 2nd, so you won’t hear about us during that time for
sure!

Cheers,
Théo

Hi,

I’ve just imported the translations from last year for the fundraising
take over on mozilla.org. If you had already translated those last year,
you’re all set. Just check that everything looks good once it’s on
www-dev.allizom.org
The strings are at the bottom of the file for the new homepage
https://github.com/mozilla-l10n/www.mozilla.org/blob/master/en-US/mozorg/home/index-2016.lang#L97-L140

Temp demo server to see it live:
https://bedrock-demo-craigcook.us-west.moz.works Translations are not
yet on this server. Also note that you will need to open a new tab or a
new window to see the take over once more.

If you work on Pootle, please check the Web dashboard to know if you
need to translate those strings or not (they are not imported back in
Pootle) https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/webdashboard/

Cheers,
Théo

Hi,

The MDN team has generously added a fundraising promo on
https://developer.mozilla.org if you’re localizing MDN UI on Pontoon,
the 3 strings are available :) https://pontoon.mozilla.org/projects/mdn/

Théo

Hi,

I’ve exposed the last snippets for the fundraising campaign for de, es,
fr, it, pl, pt-BR, ru. And with that, hopefully the last strings of the
year for this campaign.

Few notes: 1./ some snippets are inspired by the social media copy
you’ve translated a few days ago, feel free to reuse parts of your
translations where it applies.

2./ For de, es, fr, pl, you’ll see [COUNTRY] in a few snippets. Please
replace it with what makes sense for your locale: Germany, Spain, France
or Poland. And don’t worry, it won’t show up in other countries speaking
your language ;)

Deadline: December 15th
Pontoon: https://pontoon.mozilla.org/projects/engagement/
GitHub: https://github.com/mozilla-l10n/engagement-l10n/

So far, the campaign is going well, and your work has been critical to
that. Last year around 50% of donations were coming from outside the US,
this year we’re around 60%! Let’s get this number even higher with this
last batch of snippets :)

Thanks everyone!
Théo

Hi Théo.

Hi Michal,

Sorry for the delay. So far you can check the current amount on money
raised on https://fundraising.mozilla.org/ or use the add-on created by
Aryx
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/counter-for-mozillas-eoy-fund/
(kudos for that, Aryx!)

The stats for the donations per country on the website are out-of-date,
but I will try to get the current ones extracted and send them to this
mailing list.

Cheers,
Théo

Hi,

We’ve identified a potential factor preventing people from completing
their donation. To fix it, we’ve added the word "Donate" to the buttons
on the homepage: https://donate.mofostaging.net/en-US/

This is a very visible and critical string, so I will monitor the
commits over the next few days, and push to production as soon as
translations are done.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Théo
