Hi,
I'm working on investigating the importance of some new features in
Firefox. One thing that Chrome has that Firefox doesn't at the moment
is Instant Translation - I'm looking for people in every locale who
would be prepared to try some existing solutions and share their feedback.
Background
----------
When I've done field research, I've seen that this is a very popular
feature of Chrome in some countries such as Russia and Brazil. But in
talking with people in the Mozilla community, this doesn't mean that it
will be a good service for all Firefox users - Raivis in Latvia
explained to me just how poor Google's Instant Translation service is in
Latvian, for example.
So, I am looking for your input both on how we should implement this
feature and on the quality of services for your locale. Doing it the
way Chrome does it might be expensive from a resource and licensing
point of view.
Things to try will be:
a. Instant translate in Chrome
b. Translate this! addon in Firefox
c. Maxthon's instant translation implementation
d. your views on which translation services are best for your locale (if
any!)
e. your views on the utility of such services in your locale:
ei.do people read foreign language content?
eii.do they tend to use a localised build of Firefox?
I will send instructions and a questionnaire to make it easy to collate
all this data next week.
Right now, I'm looking for people who are interested to help. If you
care about this feature and have some time, I'd really like to work with
you.
So - if you're interested, please sign up here (where it says, "Name" -
I've left space for 3 people per locale).

and send me an email (you don't have to post your address on the Google
doc).
Many thanks
Patrick
