I was reflecting on the tortuously long PiCL / Persona threads that have all been resolved.

I came to believe there is a powerful collection of people on this list that feel the same way about Persona. I believe that the most passionate points of that discussion was where the Persona vision was challenged. That there is an underlying agreement on a crystal clear vision - one that hasn't really been expressed holistically and directly (and if it has, I'm sorry, I'm forgetful).

So as an experiment I set out to express the Persona Vision. I wrote some words, and Francois and Ben helped me by reviewing them and offering thoughts which shaped what I came to. Here it is:

I would love to know how others find this, whether those who really care about Persona would empasize the same points. The utility of this may be to have a powerful tool to help newcomers understand why we make the decisions we make, and more effectively challenge us and our beliefs.

Looks great lloyd :) I like this sharing and summary.

I'm also planning to cook some presentation materials about Persona and try
to promote in Taiwan. Your article is a very good structure to point out
key points and easy to be understood. I would like to try to draw some
charts for these key points in one article :) Do you mind if I translate it
into Chinese?

Persona Is an Easy Way to Sign InYesPersona Lets You Use Your Existing
Email AccountYes. Actually it *requires* you to use your email account.
Persona Lets You Choose Who You TrustUnsure on this one. It let's you
choose, but the choices are Mozilla or, in the case that your they have
implemented Persona, your email provider. At least that's my take on the
current iteration, things can always change on this one. Allowing users to
choose who they trust is the holy grail of identity systems, imho
Persona is an Experience, not an AccountYesPersona is a Global Public
ResourceYes, the open source nature of persona is great. I think if the
direction goes towards standardization it will be even more global.
So What is Persona?

Persona is an *easy way* to sign in that enables you to use your *existing
email account*. It's an *open technology* on the path to *standardization*.
+1
