Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know most of the content in buildingfirefoxos.com has been moved to the MDN: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Apps/Design/Firefox_OS_building_blocks

Thanks Chris for putting this stuff together!

So I will stop updating the website. 

I have some mixed feelings after two years maintaining it, but having all info regarding Firefox OS styles on the MDN has more sense and won’t confuse users as much.

I will also stop reviewing Building Blocks patches in gaia, I guess Pavel Ivanov will be taking care of them as he is the one with more experience in shared components.

Only a question... the cross browser support?
Building Blocks have a little css file https://github.com/buildingfirefoxos/Building-Blocks/blob/gh-pages/cross_browser.css that fix some problems on the other browsers but in MDN an alternative for this file not exist.

I think adding a page to explain and share this would be a good idea...or I could just mention it on all pages and include it in the live samples. What do you think?

Hi Chris,
i was talking in private with Arnau about this css file.
This file allows to use the gaia style on the other browsers but have the problem of the test on the other browsers.
I think that a repo only for this file is an idea so in this way the people can test and fix problems on the other browser.
But the main problem of use Building Blocks that is difficult to use for a serious app because is not a very CSS framework.

• Missing a Grunt/Gulp file for compat or build a custom css
• Not use a preprocessor

Also Building Blocks contain an HTML file as a boilerplate that is possible to edit for create own app, send the user to the shared folder on gaia without an HTML file filled with all the example is a problem.
In this way the people prefer other solution like Bootstrap.
In the repo https://github.com/buildingfirefoxos/Building-Blocks/issues and in some emails in the many mailing lists the main problem that is only a mix of files without reference between them.
I understand that is difficult maintain a CSS Framework but i think that is the time to do so.
Also a JS solution that contain some of this tools (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Apps/Reference/Firefox_OS_app_tools)
I think that a solution like "Gaia SDK" for create the UI that works on the main browers with some useful libraries will improve the user experience and the first developer experience on Firefox OS.

I hear you on this Daniele - I think this would be a really good thing. The updated Gaia web components are definitely going in this direction, being implemented as bower components, etc. See https://github.com/gaia-components/gaia-header for a good example.
