The default branding of Firefox OS is... well, not Firefox OS.

It's the "powered by" image, and the Fox-less blue globe icon.

One contributor described it as: "Just a few sad pale blue orbs. No
identity. No fun."

This is a fixable problem!

And fixing it means that people using their own builds, and ports to
unsupported devices, and IoT devices and anywhere else will have a fun
and *good looking* experience.

The assets are here for Gaia:

I'm not sure where boot animations live, but surely someone here does.

I'm looking into whether we can re-use some of the Firefox Developer
Edition for default logos and such.

Any ideas? Any animation wizards want to put together a boot animation?

I actually have a related point: Firefox OS doesn't really have its own logo It repurposes the Firefox logo and adds "Firefox OS" labeling adjacent to it. This can be tricky in scenarios in which you actually want to differentiate products or release channels by icon. We do this (or try to) on MDN in a few scenarios, such as compatibility information, badging of content based on support levels, and so forth. But it sort of fails for Firefox OS due to the lack of a unique logo.

Is there any significant chance this might someday change?

It's not a huge deal, but it is a little frustrating sometimes when trying to represent things visually.

This bug might lead a clue in regards to changing the boot animation : https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=825015

That should be a series of jpg format images. b2g will try to load all of them and display them one by one quickly so it looks like an animation while you boot up your device.

Thanks for asking, Ronald. A couple of notes:

* The question of using official Firefox logo, modified somehow like we do with Firefox Nightly, is in the hands of the branding and legal teams. We want to ensure that user expectations are managed when using this logo, since they'll be using software of variable quality - community ports often do not have 100% functionality as official builds. Hopefully once this is resolved, we can move forward on official community branding - a cohesive visual look and feel designed for this purpose.

* As the above will likely take weeks to answer, and maybe months to develope, Adam Farden has been trying out a few different approaches for the short term. I liked the idea of using the Foxfooding branding (without any places it uses the official logo) for now.
