FxSync scope reduction

Hi!

We completed stage 2 of https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox_OS_Data_Sync#Firefox_Sync, with https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1232276 pending.

As read-write sync is not required for the Smart TV (right, Preeti?), and no new versions of the smartphone will be shipped to end users, I propose to deprioritize stages 3 and 4 of this project, at least for the time being.

We should uplift the fetchLimit code to the 2.5 Smart TV as well, that's probably very urgent, given that they will probably freeze in a few weeks from now?

Preeti, can you confirm if read-only tabs sync is required for the next version of the Smart TV? If so, should we plan to land this in 2.6?

Well, we still need to get it into the OTA channel and available to foxfooders. And there are also other interesting bugs like [1] or [2] that we should probably fix.

We already did the hardest part for this feature, so it would really be a shame to leave Sync as a half baked product with a poor experience compared to desktop or mobile (Android, iOS). IMHO we can catch up with other platforms with relatively low effort.

I missed the discussion with the TV team, but I would say that passwords and forms should probably also be a priority for TVs. Anything that saves the user keyboard usage on the TV would be a win. I am adding Joe Cheng in CC.

Just to confirm that I am no longer blocked on the sendMessage work and am now actively working on the password sync whether its for a next phone release / just for TV etc. Beyond password sync I am mostly waiting on some higher level direction before picking up new sync related features to work on (I already have plenty of non sync related work to keep me busy once passwords are done).

Hi All,

Per conversation w/ Joe, we agreed that the export functionality from TV is not required. Additionally, the ask for tab sync is a requirement for TV, however, I don't believe this was for 2.6 - Joe, I know we didn't discuss timing for this, can you please confirm?
