What is the preferred method for side-loading a webextension?
I see in ...
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/Distribution
... that it can be done but there are no instructions how.

Registry key?
Place .xpi in a certain directory?
Execute Firefox with a certain command-line option?
Some other?

... but I think it is mostly outdated.
the USING THE REGISTRY link goes to an archive of obsolete content.
and putting the xpi in the extensions directory didn't work.
