Hello Comm Tools,

Later this week we're improving how vouching works on mozillians.org,
our community directory. There's an FAQ page describing the changes and
more information will be shared this week
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mozillians/Vouching

Vouching is the mechanism we use for building a trust network on the
site. Getting vouched as a Mozillian means you have made a meaningful
contribution. It allows you to view all profiles for other Mozillians
and you get access to special content other Mozilla sites, like Air
Mozilla and Mozilla Moderator.

Mozillians.org has outgrown its simple vouching model. Vouching wasn't
well explained and it wasn't clear why someone was vouched. We will be
adding descriptions to vouches to explain why individuals are vouched.

When the changes are live on the site, we need your help to add vouching
descriptions to people you have vouched for. We also have a transition
plan to move to vouches with descriptions.

Most importantly, your vouched status is not disappearing this week :)

If you have any questions, please reply or start a new post in this forum.

These changes are now live on production. We hit a rare database bug [0]
that resulted in some downtime but everthing looks good now.

Enjoy the new vouching platform!

Thanks,
Giorgos

Great Stuff this is. I love the new model, it brings back meaning and
weight to being vouched.

I have a question Lawrence concerning community emails. In my opinion,
I don't think there's need to automatically vouch for a person with a
community email because like you said, holders of these email
addresses are few and they are issued these emails on merit. My
thinking is for a contributor to get a community email, they need to
be an active mozillian for a while and I'm assuming that they'll
already have been vouched on mozillians before they get community
email? My $0.02

Congrats, #commtools, this was a huge change to make in both code and
culture, and you did it fast! Nice work. :)
