about:config development

Dear Mozilla-Firefox et al,

Please tell me how to get rid of the /*Mozilla redirect*/ that has blocked
my access to /*about:config*./

Instead of the /about:config/ page opening, the name in the address bar
changes to /firefox/ , and then to goes to a mozilla.org web page
which has an /upgrade /button !

I don't need an upgrade. I'm REAL happy with the older version on my XP
SP2 machine.

I also don't like people taking control of my PC and trying to force an
upgrade to my
software. This amounts to planting of MALWARE, VIRUS, ROOTKITS et al.

Please tell me where the instructions for this hijacking of my browser
are located so I can
remove them, and WHAT I need to remove.
