This is not only related to Firefox OS.

Google and Mozilla is apparently planning to remove <keygen> where Google's position is that the classic x.509 use-case is invalid on the Web for privacy, security, and usability-reasons.

This position is out of proportion since the (real-world) privacy problems created by eID are hardly measurable compared to for example Gmail and Facebook, not to mention mobile phone operators who not only know who we connect to, but also where we are geographically.
