If you go into the Account Settings, Server Settings page, is the
"Always request authentication..." option selected?

In case you didn't see this question in the Thunderbird developer
newsgroup, here is the question again:

If you go into the Account Settings, Server Settings page, is the
"Always request authentication..." option selected?

We discussed this when 2.0.2 came out, user must check the "always offer auth"
option for this server, since it generates this non-standard message instead of
"authentication required" when the connection is opened.

Caused by allowing access to certain groups for read *without* auth, and more
groups with POST if you auth. There was some minor glitch in this and it was
fixed in 2.0.2. And reviewing my posts to e-s support group, the bug was a
message saying the SMTP server was configured wrong, fixed now.

Tell SM to authenticate and all will be well.
