In case you didn't see this question in the Thunderbird developer
newsgroup, here is the question again:
If you go into the Account Settings, Server Settings page, is the
"Always request authentication..." option selected?

Caused by allowing access to certain groups for read *without* auth, and more
groups with POST if you auth. There was some minor glitch in this and it was
fixed in 2.0.2. And reviewing my posts to e-s support group, the bug was a
message saying the SMTP server was configured wrong, fixed now.
Tell SM to authenticate and all will be well.
