I am now planning to write my first Thunderbird extension and looking
for XPCOM hooks that are called before connecting and after
disconnecting remote servers for each account. Where can I get the
necessary information?

What is your use case? It's easier to help if we know what you are
trying to accomplish.

I just want to make Windows VPN connections up/down for an account as
Microsoft mail clients do. If Thunderbird could call extension's code
before/after making server connections, I hope I could make such an
extension.
