When will return receipts work in an automated fashion?

Occasionally I get a message with a return receipt requested. It's a bother to have to respond to the popup dialog asking me whether or not I wish to send a return receipt. So I go to Edit: Preferences: Advanced: General: Return Receipts. There I select When I receive a request for a return receipt: Allow return receipts for some messages and set all of them to Always send I still get prompted when a return receipt is requested! Is there any setting that will automatically generate return receipts without bothering me?
