Every now and then I'm thinking about a SeaMonkey store to sell our own
t-shirts, coffe cups or whatever. I guess that the Mozilla store won't
want to add stuff that's not mozilla.com-related (though I didn't ask)
and we'd need reasonably priced international shipping, as we'll likely
have as many orders from Europe as from the US.
The first thought for such stuff is usually cafepress.com and so I
looked into their shipping prices today and wondered that international
shipping for t-shirts etc. is just $7.00, which is cheap in comparison
to other stores.
This makes my thoughts and plans about creating a store more concrete
and so I'd like to hear what you're thinking about such a possibility
and what sort of stuff you'd like to see there or would even buy from
such a SeaMonkey store, maybe including wishes for motives printed on that.

Maybe a subtitle: "Mozilla Old School", just as a gag.

Seamonkey T-Shirts, and badges/buttons (the little round things to pin
on your jacket, dont know how the official name is).
And: It should be not to expensive to ship to Europe/Germany.

Cafepress sounds good. Are the shirts going to have
just the logo or will there be some sort of clever
slogan too? :)
Is there a SeaMonkey entity that can receive funds yet?

SeaMonkey - Surfing the net has never been so suite!
We'd like to hear your wishes and proposals for such first, before
deciding what way we really should go.
> Is there a SeaMonkey entity that can receive funds yet?
The legal entity behind us is Mozilla Foundation and we don't intend to
change that.
The shop could probably be even operated by me, as I'm running my own
(single-person) company, and I could probably forward some money to
others in the form of bug bounties or such (if we set prices higher than
our own cost at all).
This is all still undecided though, I posted this message here to get
some feedback on the proposal to do such a store at all...

I think it would be good to talk about some designs. As I am very bad
in graphics:
_______________
/ __ \
/ |__| \
/_/| Seamonkey |\_\
| |
| |
| |
|_____________|
Would be my favourite. On a black T-Shirt (or white?). Where the small
circle should be the logo.
And maybe a litte slogan on the back, somethink thoughtful like
"Browser for real men" or "The Monster is back" or something similarly
stupid ;-)

What you are saying here seems at odds with previous statements about the
SM trademark. Surely individuals can't just up and make a SeaMonkey store?
Would any such efforts have to be approved by the Council or something?
Where would monies go?

I do like the idea of a nice SeaMonkey shirt. :)
On a slightly related note, I was looking at SeaMonkey.org. It looks
like an individuals defunct seamonkey (of the marine type) cam project.
I was considering that if I had a nice lump of money to spare, it might
be a neat thing to buy the domain from this person and give it to...??
MoFo? (Wonder if we could raise some funds to get that domain?)
It surely need Council approval.
And why is it at odds with SM trademark?

Do you have a contact address and a compelling argument to tell them?
Our trademark is still not listed in the USPTO database, so the
trademark is no argument yet... :(
Robert Kaiser
Sorry, should have been clearer. You were (seemingly) telling
others not to do off doing things with the SM logo, etc.
So basically, any such project must be blessed. That makes sense.
But I'm still wondering what entity will collect/hold funds? If
the SM project were to open a PayPal account, where would that go?
Would MoFo keep a SeaMonkey account for us?

No, no. Not considering legal action in any way. Just wondering
who would/should wind up with the domain if the current owner were
to be made an offer and accept it. The contact address is available
through whois (and looks possibly like a domain squatter.) Contact
now would probably be premature.

What about the ladies who use SeaMonkey?? ;))
True. They should use the "The Monster is back"-Shirt ;-)
Or, a pink shirt saying "SM is cute". Maybe not abbreviated...

Of course, I'd buy T-shirts, sweaters (for winter), and mugs. :-) Some
web I visited when SeaMonkey project launched had a photo of a, badge?
(sorry, I don't know the actual name either), with the slogan "Save
the seamonkey!"; it was funny indeed.
Another moz-geek one would be something like "Get all the good stuff
at once!". It would be fine showing up with that at next FOSDEM and
watch the faces of Firefox guys! }:->>
Maybe you want to consider setting up a private recollection of
one-liners; if all of us see them here before printed, they will lose
a bit of its freshness. Some one-liners can be found at:
http://mozilla.wikicities.com/index.php/Marketing:Seamonkey_Materials,
and announcing there the availability of a SM store should fit perfectly.
Nice idea, and don't forget to also announce it in the project
website, the wiki, etc. when it's close to launch. I assume you will
be in touch with the guy behind http://www.spreadseamonkey.com/ so the
store gets as much promotion as possible.
Regards.

Yeah, that's OK but not on a pink shirt though. That is soooooo . . .
If SM was abbreviated, people would wonder who SM is/was and maybe
ask. Why miss a marketing opportunity? ;))
> SeaMonkey - Surfing the net has never been so suite!
Now if you were to put the SeaMonkey logo on a surf board. I don't
think you'd get away with waves that looked like the M$ logo though
;))

Its for girls. I think they might like cute and fluffy things.

I dont know if it is the case with cafepress.com, but it was with the
shops already available (the discussion was about FF shirts, IIRC).
