SM 2.17(.1) not displaying HTML e-mail

SeaMonkey 2.17 and 2.17.1 (Linux) is not displaying HTML e-mail. The
icon to download/display images does not appear with the headers now, as
it did with previous versions; and it otherwise displays the empty
placeholders.

Apparently, something changed the View/Message Body As to "Simple HTML",

once changed to "Original HTML", the "Show Remote Content" icon appeared
and the e-mails now appear as they should.
