Firefox fails to restart after software update

Hi,

I have firefox v 3.5.4 installed on my Windows XP machine.
After firefox has installed the update for 3.5.5, it doesn't restart
the browser.
After manually restarting the browser, nothing happens for a long
time. Task manager shows two firefox processes apparently sitting
silently. Killing both of them and restarting firefox works, but I
find that ofcourse it has not updated itself to 3.5.5.

Is anything wrong with the way I am updating firefox?

Could you check if there are two instances of firefox.exe in the task
manager prior to restarting? If there are could you try to find what has
launched the second instance? Basically, there shouldn't be a second
instance.
