FF3 Beta/RC1 Crash reverts to previous version....

I've noticed on the past 2 Beta and RC1 builds that if Firefox crashes
or has a forced shutdown, when I re-open Firefox, the last "release"
version I had installed becomes the main program (e.g. RC1 wasn't
shutdown properly when the battery in my laptop died and when I
restarted FF, it came back to version 2.0.0.14). Is this by design?
I didn't notice anything in the release notes....
