Firefox is running very slow for me on Vista (64-bit). There's a delay
even as I'm trying this message. What's the best way of figuring out
what's slowing things down?

This machine is running 2 quad-core Xeno cpus and 8GB or RAM so I
don't see why there should be any performance issues. Other apps run
fine, it seems to be just Firefox.

I noticed in the Task Manager / Performance tab, one of the cores is
pretty much always pegged when Firefox is open.

At home FF runs great on Vista 64-bit on an Intel CoreDuo chip... not
sure why this machine should be any different.

I should mention I tried disabling all add-ons and it's still slow.

Daniel,

Try this:

Go into "about:config" and set "browser.cache.memory.enable" to
"false". Restart Firefox and your problem should be solved. If it is,
this problem has to do with certain hardware configurations causing
Firefox 3.0.* to max out one core of a processor when the tab bar is
always shown or in the case where the tab bar isn't always shown, two
or more tabs are present. Which hardware configurations cause this
problem are unknown at this point (too many possible configurations to
successfully troubleshoot). I came up with this "fix" myself while
testing pre-development builds of Firefox 3.0 before it was released.
I narrowed it down between hourly builds but I don't recall which
one's off the top of my head.

The good news is that Firefox 3.1 solves this problem. Hope this
helps.
