As of version 3, FF asks if the currently opened tabs should be saved -
great. But as soon as more than one window is open this question is
replaced by the well-known (up to FF 2) warning about closing multiple
tabs. Bug or feature?

To quit on Windows, use Alt+F4 or File -> Quit.

NACK. The second window contained one single tab and the total number of
tabs mentikoned in the dialog was the one from the "main" window plus 1.

Still valid for 3.0.3 :( ...

You're asked about saving windows and tabs when you quit Firefox.
When you're closing one of multiple Firefox windows, you're not
quitting Firefox.

Damn, you're right! If I do File->Exit with multiple windows open, it
really asks as expected. Thanks for the hint, Mike!
What about a keyboard shortcut for that (didn't we have it in earlier
versions?)?

As far as i know there is a keyboard shortcut on linux and os x (Ctrl
+q) but not on windows. This sort of makes sense from a "native os
feel" perspective since that is what that key combo does in general on
*nix, but windows has no equivalent. I'm not even sure that it has an
equivalent *concept*. That said, that keyboard combo is not taken on
windows (except by an extension or two, like Ctrl+Tab) and I
personally would love to have it, since i sometimes accidentally close
a window instead of exiting firefox. Which can just completely lose me
a "work group."
Although, as a workaround for that, right now, i use the tab mix plus
extension and "protect" at least one tab in each window which prevents
that window from closing unless you're "exiting"

That would do the trick as I normally use Solaris or MacOS X. At the time
of this thread, I hadn't upgraded to FF 3 on MacOS, it even wasn't
available for "closed Solaris" so I tested it on a Win VM - where I didn't
find the shortcut.
Thanks!

Whoa, that's a bug! Firefox should exit on "Alt-F4", which is the "Exit App"
shortcut on Windows since the earliest days. I was very surprised to see that
this shortcut only does a "Close Window"....

If you release software in multiple national languages, then Alt-F4 and
Ctrl-F4 are language independent and Alt_F_X is language dependent and
depends on actual translations of menu name and command name respectively
and what particular characters you decide to select for underlined shortcuts
of both.
