Subject: [Reps-General] Host a Firefox 29 (Australis) launch event in your country

Reps,

tl;dr, sign up to apply for funding to organize an Australis launch event with Gen Kanai.

With the launch of Firefox 29 (Australis) scheduled for late April (tentatively 4/29) we are planning many launch activities both online and offline to focus attention on the updated user interface and new features for Firefox. One of the many efforts we are planning are local launch events we would like your support to execute.

Some of you who have been with the project a long time remember the earlier years when Mozilla released Firefox about once a year. Mozilla used to plan large events to coincide with the launches. This year, for Desktop Firefox, we have two large launches, Australis in late April and 10 years of Firefox near the end of the year. For the Australis release, we hope that Reps will be interested to plan launch events to answer questions about the new Firefox as well as use the event to gather your local community and highlight it.

Mozilla will provide:

* event content: presentations on Firefox 29, the Addons contest winners, and other relevant content (FXOS, Webmaker) to present
* fixed funding for event hosting costs
* Australis Community Toolkit (digital files for event posters, banners and stickers to be printed locally for your event)
* Basecamp for event organization

Communities need to provide:

* Organization & execution of launch events by Reps
* Production of local gear with graphics provided by Mozilla
* Media production: photos, videos, blog posts of events

Schedule:

With Australis scheduled to be released around April 29th, we hope that local communities who will schedule launch events for Australis would do so soon after the launch, such as on one of the days of the weekend of May 3-4 or May 10-11. This can be flexible due to launch event site schedules and the limited time we have to plan an event.

Criteria:

All serious plans will be considered, however Mozilla does not have an unlimited budget for Australis launch events. We will not fund more than 1 event in a country so it is better organize at that level.

Media:

We would like to ask each event location to have a dedicated photographer and ideally also someone to capture video at the event. We hope to integrate photos and videos from the regional launch events into one post-launch video that we will share broadly.

Please contact Gen Kanai ASAP if you are have any questions or are interested in scheduling a regional launch event for Australis.

Thank you!

Gen

It is fine to discuss any of these things but please get the facts correct.

Firefox for Metro has been cancelled.

The "ads" for Firefox is a proposal, not a finalized feature, and many
aspects may change if it is launched, which it has not yet.

Persona is now a community-driven project like Thunderbird.

Happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

I'm wrong, it's not Metro, Firefox UI likes Chrome, many people don't
like it. We can disscuss about this and firefox logo, so flat :P

Yes, We talk about privacy, the future of web, but this feature likes
NSA, maybe... I don't think this feature if it release,

Yeah, it's the new Australis UI. I think it's better to have a
discussion about Vietnam Mozilla community logo instead of original
Firefox's one from Mozilla.

Mozilla sells ads in firefox, but howto we make sure the vendor doesn't
break our privacy, google uses this way to track us, and make profit for
them, I don't think Mozilla will make profit by this way

Ads is not allowed to run globally with full privilege due to security
and privacy reasons. Certainly there are ways to bypass the sand-like
box (pun intended) but I believe Mozilla is bringing it into serious
consideration.

This should make a very good discussion. However, I think it's best
to join available ones in dedicated mailing lists due to its
complicated nature, both in tech and non-tech senses.
