Hello

I would post all this on bugs page but I don't know how many literal people
would dismissit as not a bug as they don't define a bug as something that's
bugging people but an error, so bug pages aren't really error pages,
anyway...

I've installed mozilla in swedish language, but instead of mozilla just
reading www.facebook.com and displaying the page it actually goes and finds
a sweedish server? since the page has been loading for 20 minutes now, it's
loaded now after i refreshed it, first time it wouldn't opet it at all, not
even google. so this is the page https://sv-se.facebook.com/ if i wanted
to log into facebook from a swedish server, now as u can see i don't really
undestand much about dns and i don't know whether facebook decides that i'm
gonna be given a swedish page since i'm using a swedish browser of whether
mozilla does that, nevertheless i can not now log in with english language,
this is very bad and pointles, but i don't mind that, what's worse is that
it took forever to load the page as it loads from God knows where. most of
the pages don't work right away, as it's probably resolving whatever it
is...

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flash-video-downloader/

this addon for instance, it doesn't automatically load when i sync it along
with ghostery and adblock plus, it's not in the search in the swedish
version, or it might be, but wait I don't speak swedish I just wanna use
the browser, so if you didn't think through of searching extensions made in
america in other countries, hm..... who would have thought that i'd mostly
be using mozilla just because of this addon at first, addons are very
important.

so to summarize, i really don't need my pages translated, and i don't need
my dns settings to be changed. after i uninstalled mozilla in swedish
language, i couldn't get on google or mozilla.org with chrome or explorer
until i restarted the windows computer.

so why can't you leave my dns settings alone, i might be speaking swedish
but that doesn't mean i'm in sweeden, i'm in kentucky, i don't get it

Hej Goran,

Many sites will look at the language settings of your browser to decide
what content to serve you. I know that when I am in Sweden and using an
English browser, Google will offer me the sk site, but will also have text
"looking for Google in English?" I am not sure what Facebook offers as it
seems to use the browser language to determine which site to direct you to
(I get it in English when visiting SK). I have never had to try to get
Facebook to give me a different language. I know they do have a language
selector somewhere and I assume they would use cookies to preserve your
choice. If you would like sites to load in English, not Swedish, let us
know, there is a fairly simple solution to that while still allowing you to
use Firefox in Swedish.

Why it took so long to load the page is a different issue. Sweden and US
have good internet architecture, you shouldn't notice a page loading
significantly slower if it's served from Sweden (though perhaps maybe a
tiny bit slower). You said that it worked after refreshing? It sounds like
something "got stuck" and the browser never tried to move on to load
something else. Also not being able to get onto sites in other browsers
until restarting does make it sounds like something went wrong on the OS
level, though of course it's possible whatever "got stuck" in Firefox got
something stuck on the OS level.

At this point we'd need to wait to see if it happened again. It's
incredibly difficult to troubleshoot a problem that's not reproducible, as
much as we'd like to!

Please let me know if this didn't sufficiently address your concerns, we'll
take another shot.

I noticed I missed the part about the add-on, but I won't try to address it
now, I'm at a conference and about to pass out from exhaustion! Hopefully
someone else will take a go, if not I'll reply again when I have time.

Hi Goran,

I use Firefox in Spanish and have run into some similar issues. A
localized version of Firefox assumes that you prefer to have web content
delivered in the same locale as the browser UI by default. You can
change this by going to Preferences->Content->Languages to change those
default settings and avoid the locale-specific redirection.

Hope that helps,
Jeff
