Welcome back. Thinks didn't really go according to my expectations but I'm grateful to guys attending the sessions.
Regards,
Mamadou.

Dear Mamadou and Peiying,
Thank you for the warm-up in Bamako and follow-ups since. I was
disconnected, on vacation in the countryside in northern Italy. Just
back in town, it will take me a couple of days to clear urgent
matters and get back to you.
That PO is for the guys in Mali as I mentioned it during the
session in Mali. It is something to get them up and running and
not repeat translating the words and expressions that I did. So
it wasn't meant for you.
I will still continue on the Google doc link you sent a while
back, I changed priority a while back and was trying to get the
FFOS done first.
This list was originally sent to me by Abdul who translated
them into Songhai/Koirachini and I do the same in Bamanankan as
I go a long. Otherwise there might be resemblances between the
two languages but very subtle.
Please invlude the Bamanankan community, there is not that
much active people as Internet access in Mali is still a
nightmare, it is frustrating and nearly beyond comprehension.
Including them will allow them to have continuous update on the
tasks at hand.
So don't save the PO at least not yet as it is not complete.
Thanks for sharing your work with me. I
have a few questions and favors to ask:
- How different between Songhai and Bambara?
Are they phonetically identical but are based
on different scripts?
- I can save your .po file as an additional
glossary on the Bambara page. How did you get
the list of terms? Has this been through peer
review?
- We want to standardize the list so when we
merge feedback, and have better version
control. This is very important when I don't
read the language. I also share the same list
with our partner.
- Does you list contains all that's included
in the google doc? If not, would you review
those not covered in the .po file?
- I understand that using google doc has its
limitation, but using other format and sharing
files with people who are not technical or would
like to be able to sort, or tracking versions will
find .po file difficult to handle. We also share
the same file with partners.
So, given that, could you go through the list you
provided and see if any English terms are the same
but with different translations, you can add those
to the "recommendation" column.
Also, the feedback is from the community, granted that
not everyone is active or has time to do it, I would
like to have you run by them so it is a collective
feedback (i know this is time consuming).
If this is the best you can do and there won't be any
feedback, I will have the agency to put things together
in the current google spreadsheet format.
I also notice that the Mali community is also cc'd on this
list. Should I include them in the Bambara l10n project
request?
