Of course, Sankha! Let's do this...

(Cross posting to MCS list, to keep the folks updated)

Sounds good, I think that it should be based on jabber and federated.

Also keep in mind we should need to involve contact phones to do the
connections so it would be easy for people to install and done, but also
having in mind privacy, let users choose whatever or not they want to add
which contacts.

Usernames should be like countryC...@server.org (this would be
transparent to the user).

Obviously, let's search first if someone else is working on a similar
project, I know that jabber webapps are already being developed ;)

Regards.

Deb, Yes, I now get the point. And true we should take it slowly a step at
a time, that will even help us cover all angles :))

Sankha, yes definitely my point. You don't know how I've longed for that.
So when can we begin? Hehe, this going to be an exciting and cool journey :p

PS: +1 Deb for cross-posting to the MCS list.

Thanks y'all for all the great ideas,

I guess as Deb pointed out earlier, we should proceed with creating a clear
picture of the application and what technical skills needed to realize it
and then guys can take on it and make happen.

I will be looking forward to next steps on this project.

Cheers!
San James.

Hey Lawrence,

My apologies for the late reply. I had been traveling for the last couple
of days.

There have been some amazing ideas floating about in this thread, and if
something like this can be implemented, it would be of huge help to us all.
Instead of going into the technical details, I'll try to share something
that I think should be the ideal implementation. (Hint: This has earlier
been talked about in this thread.)

Given the fact that we already have IRC channels, social media
implementations on yammer, FB, Google+, etc, I think the concern should be
on a more organic and seamless method of communication. One thing that's
already been hinted is something like WhatsApp, and that's something I
really like. I keep finding myself checking-in using Foursquare, chatting
up on WhatsApp, editing photos on Instagram, and connecting all of these to
my twitter account, so that everything is available to my followers via
twitter(or FB). However, what's missing is the option of a seamless chat
experience combined with the rest(maybe using APIs) dedicated for
Mozillians. Yammer went really close to this, however, I find the mobile
app for it plain Heavy (My phone is a medium rang android afterall) just
like the FB app, however what's appealing in WhatsApp is its simple and
light design combined with the seamless experience.

Maybe we can find a possible use case here. What do you think?

Regards,
Sayak

Thanks Sayak, Ruben,

This is awesome. I'm trying to link up with my code mate here J.B and we
try to build the other side of the app, integrating the social networks
like Sayak said. posting to twitter, facebook, foursquare because we had
built a mobile "tweetdeck" of our own with J.B to keep track of our
hashtags :)

So what part of the projects are you taking on. Oh by the way Ruben, I
don't know much about Jabber...... :/ but I think if it can get us a
whatsapp like feel and lightness in the app then lets do it....

Thanks.

Looking forward to hearing from you and the progress.

Hello Miguel,

I really love this. You are a great thinker. I think we should begin on
this right away since we even hve the opportunity that Whatsapp is going
premium. I will try to talk to some of my friends in Mozilla Corp and see
if they can give us a server or are willing to give us hosting space for it.

We need a name for the app and to now actually structure the whole thing.
Will add you to the google group for mozilla community sites when I get
time so that you meet the other team and also see what we had thought of so
far. I think right now what we need is to actually build and host some base
code on github or butbucket and kick off the dev run. Don't know how long
it will take though but I'm optimistic :)

Please keep sending me these ideas and ways - forward, you should be on the
main team.....you will make this amazing.

Thanks.

Recommendations:

* Create a pad with all the ideas.
* Fix a meeting to discuss and set feature priorities, send a doodle to fix
date and time.
* Create a gihub project, create an assign issues.
* Code!

Good look!

Agree with Nukeador's suggestion, that should be the next step once we're
decided about what we are exactly looking for.

So that I understand it better, does something like this work:
https://marketplace.firefox.com/app/chat/ ?
If yes, why so? If no, then what for? (yes, it's very early prototype - but
should be enough to give an idea)

Hi again,

Has someone started to code something?

Willyaranda has some contacts with Spanish developers that already have
a good jabber client web app that could be the base of a bigger project.

Hello,

Sorry I took long to get back to all of you.

I've created a team etherpad (
https://mozillamobilemessenger.etherpad.mozilla.org/)

And for starters I've put all the ideas that people were forwarding on the
mailing list and some that were sent directly to my community email in the
"Ideas" etherpad below. Please take a look here

https://mozillamobilemessenger.etherpad.mozilla.org/1

Then I created another one for "coding and way forward", here add your name
if your interested in helping coding any part of the project and what parts
exactly need to be coded. Also give ways forward rather suggestions on how
we should progress still here.

https://mozillamobilemessenger.etherpad.mozilla.org/2

Oh Sorry I forgot,

The suggestions for the meetings, what channel to use, time and date should
be suggested on etherpad 2 (coding and ways forward)

Let's move forward and do this :)

Hello,

Sorry I took long to get back to all of you.

I've created a team etherpad (
https://mozillamobilemessenger.etherpad.mozilla.org/)

And for starters I've put all the ideas that people were forwarding on the
mailing list and some that were sent directly to my community email in the
"Ideas" etherpad below. Please take a look here

https://mozillamobilemessenger.etherpad.mozilla.org/1

Then I created another one for "coding and way forward", here add your name
if your interested in helping coding any part of the project and what parts
exactly need to be coded. Also give ways forward rather suggestions on how
we should progress still here.

https://mozillamobilemessenger.etherpad.mozilla.org/2

Those who are interested to be administrators to the team etherpad you can
ping me on my community email. (lkis...@mozilla-uganda.org)

Could someone please help set up a github repo.....Thank you.

Cheers.
