Mozilla Indonesia community,

After 10 years of building Mozilla's presence in Asia, it is with a heavy
heart that I leave Mozilla as full-time staff. My family is moving to China
for new opportunities and I am leaving to organize our move and enjoy the
summer. My last day in the office was April 27th.

Brian King will be covering for me until my replacement is identified.

I have a few more thoughts on my time at Mozilla here:

https://blog.mozilla.org/gen/2015/04/30/goodbye-mozilla-hello-china/

If you are passing through Shanghai in the future, please don't hesitate to
get in touch.

As we may see each other on the web, I do not want to say goodbye.

Looking forward to the next time we meet, virtually or in person,

Gen Kanai

Dear Mozillians,

First, I’d like to take the chance to thank Gen sincerely. He is a big part
of the reason for Mozilla’s strength and breadth in Asia, being there from
the beginning of so many communities over the past 10 years. It’s a great
record of contributing to the open web.

Many of you don’t know me yet as I recently joined to work with Mitchell
and Mark on the next steps for participation at Mozilla
<http://georgeroter.org/2015/04/10/introducing-the-mozilla-participation-lab-2/>.
I’m sending this note on behalf of Brian King (Mozilla’s Regional Lead for
Community Development) who is on vacation this week.

This transition has come upon us more quickly than anticipated, as Gen
needed to expedite his visa application for China so that he could join his
family there. The Chinese visa application required him to resign from
Mozilla.

As such, we don’t yet have a long-term plan for providing staff support for
Mozilla communities in Asia. We expect to be able to share more details by
the end of May. What we can say is the following:

1.

Our communities in Asia are a major priority for the Participation team
at Mozilla. You have been expanding the reach of Mozilla’s programs and
products, and we are excited to continue to support your efforts to advance
Mozilla’s mission and the open web.
2.

Many of you have worked closely over the past year with staff members
other than Gen. You can expect that to continue.
3.

We want to hear your ideas on how Mozilla can best support our
communities across Asia moving forward. We will solicit these thoughts
throughout the month of May.
4.

In the meantime, Brian King (bk...@mozilla.com) will be available for
your questions and to support you throughout May. And, as always, Reps and
ReMo mentors are there to help.

In order to solicit your ideas and answer questions, we invite you to join
a community call on Thursday May 7th @ 14h30 UTC. You can find the details
in this Etherpad: https://participation.etherpad.mozilla.org/10

Please feel free to reach out to Brian King and he will respond early next
week when he is back from vacation. If you have a more urgent question or
concern, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly.

Let me finish by expressing a great admiration for your work in advancing
Mozilla’s mission. Our entire team, and Mozilla broadly, are optimistic
about the momentum we see across Asia and the massive impact that we can
have in the years ahead in advancing the open web. I’m excited to dig into
that work with all of you!

Onwards,
George (on behalf of Brian)

Hi Team Indonesia,

Just a reminder about the call on tomorrow Thursday 7 May, 14:30 UTC.
Please add your name to the pad if you intend to come, even if not 100%
sure you can. Please add questions regardless:

https://participation.etherpad.mozilla.org/10

Hope to see you then.
