Perhaps converting them, and then uploading them as .ogg instead of .mp3
will work.
You could ask Asa what software he uses when he makes (or converts to)
Theora videos. VLC is capable of converting media files to open formats,
but I personally use http://media-convert.com.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to stick to Theora and video sites capable of
streaming Theora (like openvideo.dailymotion.com) when posting videos to
the Drumbeat site. Fallback formats (.mov etc) can be included, but that
doesn't really help to promote the use of open formats.
I actually don't know a whole lot about open multimedia formats. What I
do know I've learned through hacks.mozilla.org, but I'd be glad to help
out where I can.
