FYI

I purchased the domain mozilladrumbeat.com for the Drumbeat project
and have forwarded the URL to https://wiki.mozilla.org/Drumbeat. (It'll take
a few hours for the DNS information to propagate around the web)
Let me know if you would like use mozilladrumbeat.com officially for the Drumbeat
the project  I can point A records to Mozilla, MX records to Google Apps, ..
I can also arrange for domain to be transferred over to the Drumbeat project.

Best,
Paul Booker

Hi, Paul. Thanks for registering "mozilladrumbeat.com" ! (and sorry
for the late reply)

We actually also just secured the "drumbeat.org" domain.

So that's a proposal on the table: to make "drumbeat.org" the main URL
for the site.

Any thoughts?

Drumbeat.org sounds perfect! (and it's a lot shorter)

I can transfer the domain mozilladrumbeat.com over to Drumbeat or point
it at
drumbeat.org later all options are available there. We got the URL for
the site
covered that's brilliant.

It's also awesome to have mozilladrumbeat.com.  Maybe I'm a paranoid loon of the political class, but I'm glad that one is not out there for the taking!

How do people feel about drumbeat.mozilla.org? I'm not sure how much of an affiliation with Mozilla the site wants to have, but this is an option too.

If you file a Bugzilla bug, product "mozilla.org", component "server
ops", you can ask them about the procedure to transfer the domain over.
This is something I think we do fairly regularly, so the IT people
should be familiar with it.

Hey

Paul: amazing that you registered. Thanks.

On Gina's point, maybe also good for us to have mozilladrumbeat.org?

In terms of drumbeat.org vs. drumbeat.mozilla.org, probably depends on
coming think through of Mozilla brand architecture.

However, my sense is that Drumbeat is like Firefox, Thunderbird,
Raindrop. So, should relate to Mozilla brand in same way.

The Firefox and Thunderbird sites now relate to the specific organization that releases the software (www.mozilla.com and www.mozillamessaging.com) and that's not a good fit here since no one is suggesting www.mozillafoundation.org as a domain name.

We haven't gone through the rethink of the brand architecture yet, but if Drumbeat should map to the Firefox and Thunderbird model then I think drumbeat.org works better than drumbeat.mozilla.org.

For example, a site dedicated to Firefox would make more sense at firefox.com than at firefox.mozilla.org. Affiliation with Mozilla can come through other ways, such as design, navigation and text.

This brings up the need for some common design elements that the Drumbeat site can use to create that affiliation, but that's another topic...

Hey David:

Yes, with this logic, I think drumbeat.org makes sense.

Re: common design elements, now's the time to raise that topic as we're
pretty far into the design process.

Feel free to start a thread with ideas and suggestions.

Common design elements - do you mean like how the thunderbird wings look kind of like the sides of a drum?
