Greetings,

After visiting the Canadian version of the Mozilla website (http://mozillacanada.org), I am eager to help make it more functional and beautiful. How may I be of assistance?

Hi Patrick,

Help would be great! We generally use this forum for discussion -
https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/c/communities/north-america - there
aren't too many of us focused on the community specific aspects, so we
share a forum with the rest of North America for now.

I'd love to hear what you had in mind for the site, you can reply here if
you prefer it over discourse.

It'd also be great to hear what interests you about Mozilla and if you have
any previous experience contributing before. It's ok if you haven't, it's
just good for context.

Hello Majken and other Mozillians,

I am a Canadian student interested in computers and programming. More specifically web programming. I have just joined the team for Mozilla after realizing what a wonderful web browser FireFox is truly. I was deeply dissatisfied with Google Chrome, most notably for the support and speed of Unity 3D Web GL. I am looking to help out with websites and anywhere I can write C#, VB.Net, HTML, CSS, JavaScript among a few.

In regards to the website: I noticed all the links are not functional and give the user (me) an error message. In addition, there should be a French version of the website. Could the layout be updated to a more Mozilla + Canada feel - I love the colors of Canada portrayed but I believe there is a little Mozilla spice missing.

Also, I was wondering is the purpose of the website to make a Canadian version of http://mozilla.org and showcase the projects such as FireFox? This questions brings me to an idea for an improvement regardless: could we feature the Canadian contributors to Mozilla?

Let me know what you think of this.

Sincerely,

Patrick

Greetings,

Consider this as a new logo for the page. Can I redesign the website? Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Always nice to meet another Canadian and their interest in Mozilla. Unfortunately, attachments will not be sent/received in mailing lists. Please upload the file online somewhere and share the link.

Greetings again,

Thank you Andrew for informing me of this. I uploaded my new logo proposal to my Google Drive. I would appreciate if you could have a look and let me know what you think.

Yes, the mailing list doesn't do attachments, though Discourse does. I
don't think a link to the logo on drive went through.

Some background on the site, the idea is that usually you have more
regional communities, so Toronto, Vancouver etc, and those would be
subdomains, eg to.mozillacanada.org. Currently the main page is meant to be
a planet of blogs from contributors to the Mozilla project in Canada.
Perhaps for now something static would be better.

The theme is actually a Mozilla designed Word Press theme, but i agree that
it doesn't jump up and down and shout Mozilla.

It would be nice to have a bilingual site. I believe that french speaking
contributors tend to use the moz.fr channels for communication. But that
doesn't mean we can't have french on our site and let people know that's
the current french speaking community. If we switch to a static home page
that would obviously be much more possible.

Mozilla has a Get Involved portal, but I don't think any of us are
currently handling responses. That's definitely something we can ask about
though.

The idea of the planet was to help feature the Canadian contributors
without having to do much extra work. This goes back to not having a
dedicated website team. Though I'm sure many of us would be willing to help
you if you were keen on driving it.

As an aside, we are looking for people to help hack Discourse, if you're
interested send me an email off-list and I can link you to more info.

I would like to help out with hacking the Discourse and creating a French website for Mozilla Canada Community. What can I do to help out?

Also, my apologies, here is the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8X2iMzl2vaQYnpCWXFIV1k0VU0/view?usp=sharing

I'd like to make sure you're aware of
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/styleguide/, which unified a lot of Mozilla's
visual identity. I see a section specifically for community sites at
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/styleguide/websites/community/overview/.

It would be really valuable for you to:

1) figure out if other community sites are using these styles, and if their
code is available;
2) try to incorporate your logo idea into the style used on some other
community sites;
3) figure out who is hosting the Mozilla Canada site.

Thanks for digging into this!
Nick

The site is hosted by Community Ops, getting access to changing it if we
agree on a plan won't be a problem.

That sounds great! Did you want me to work on something and share it with the group?

Greetings everyone,

I wanted to ask if Mozilla allows people to start their own projects (approved) with Mozilla?

Mozilla is a open(-source) community so anyone can launch their own Mozilla-related projects without permission, unless those hurt the brand. As a contributor, I'm actually running 2 self-motivated projects: https://twitter.com/BzDeck and https://twitter.com/FxSiteCompat

I just want to pile on here: Mozilla's a big tent. It's hard to speak for
the project in an official capacity but we encourage you to use build
things you think are awesome and /then/ figure out branding and marks, etc.

Hey, sorry for the long silence, I was on vacation and had intended to send
a message saying so, but didn't find the time.

Patrick, let me know where you are and what you need, I'll be responsive
again now.
