This is not bad news. Our goal is not to be#1, but to ensure user's have
choice.

Yeah, after all, what Mozilla is trying to do (and please people feel free
to correct me if I am wrong) is to ensure that people enjoy an open web.

Hello..
I couldn't agree more with Brian and Eleftherios. And I also see a positive
side. If you look more closely, you can see firefox is growing.. Chrome has
a slow decrease.. so let's be positive about the future :)

Cheers from Romania!

Hey!

(I know I sometimes I don't write often here). But just want to say,
Mozilla is more than a browser, is people + passion + open apps
ecosystem. :) That's not bad news. That's god. Chrome is not bad after
all as a free software product ;) (and is here because of Fx). Now, as
Mozillians opened the way for browsers w/ Firefox, it should open it for
millons of people that could build their own corner of the web and
control their life online.

Well my thoughts on chromium are: why dont we take the source code of
chromium and firefox and merge them into something even better?

Cause the underlying structure is way different. The engine is different
the structure is different and to be honest I like it that i have the right
of choice. It's like having 5-6 text editors on a Linux machine.Of course
one of them is my favorite but I really like the idea that whenever i feel
like i can use vim or emacs.

That would create the same monopoly we had on desktop machines 8 years ago
and we have today on mobile. Developers would only focus on one
browser/rendering engine, which would have negative impact on the
development of the Web as a platform and the development of browsers. Been
there, done that, doesn't work. :)

IE being the No. 2 browser is actually a very good news for everybody,
especially us. We should take credit for that and celebrate. Party time?

Fx is still number one in Croatia :P
Really really number one. :D

About Chrome:
Like Ioana said, Chrome started falling.

In my opinion, that ad on Google Search is a dirty little trick. :)
Many people still don't understand the difference between browsers.
It doesn't make a difference to them if they are using Chrome, Firefox or
IE - they just notice that "buttons arrangement" changed. :)
And, this is especially true for older people.

(I tested it on several occasions, by switching an icon of Firefox to
Internet Explorer. Results were just like I said - they barely noticed. :) )

I heard about many cases where people clicked on that ad because they
thought their computer is "telling them
something". So, they did what they always do - click it, next, I agree,
next, next, finish. (SOP for newbies :P )
No more baloons, windows or problems. :)

On the other hand, I also noticed that people figured it out - they stopped
clicking it, started switching
back, they ask what's wrong with their "internet" and how to "repair it",
etc.

About statistics and our mission:
I agree that our mission is not having most users but I'm wondering how
come that we are always so afraid of
statistics and why we always "run away" from those results and never look
at it really seriously.
It's not our mission, but we should definitely track what's going on and do
something about significant falls.

After all, if nobody uses "main product of our most important mission",
what's the point and how are we supposed
to continue? Less users, less impact, worse situation.

Maybe it sounds odd but - by having more users, we in fact make a greater
impact and we get closer to our
"goals".

So, it's important. :)
It's not bad news but it is important. :D

(I forgot what else I wanted to write down, so I'm stopping here :)) )

You should definitely pay close attention to statistics, if you are not.

But let's not overreact. After all, StatCounter shows Firefox market share
on desktop is the higest in the last 30 weeks.

And keep in mind that market is growing, so having a stable market share
means the number of users is growing.

Absolutely, if there is a significant drop in your country/region, make
sure to try and figure out why it is happening and how to reverse it.

@Nikola, regarding your point about why we always "run away" from those
results... this is in fact not the case. There are folks in Mozilla whose
sole job is to pay attention to these numbers and work on strategies to
keep/grow market share.
