T/Bird constantly crashing etc etc

Hi....my prob is that T/Bird takes 14/15 seconds to delete a msg and the
next one pops up. I have deleted the program and reinstalled it, and for
the first day it worked fine. Then on the second day, it was back to normal.
My antivirus/firewall program is Bitdefender...I'm running Win 7 64 bit.
This has happened recently, and I've no clue whats causing it. Hope someone
