Hi Lawrence,

It is nice to hear about the nice Mozthings you are doing in Uganda. In
Kenya, we had a community meeting the previous weekend and among the things
we discussed is the Mozfest EA, Firefox OS translation to Swahili is
already done and hopefully it shall be shipped together with ver 2.0 of
Fxos, preparations of webmakers has kicked off and first meeting of
trainers is being held this weekend of 24th. We also have Tech4Africa
Nairobi edition coming up and Mozilla Kenya is planning on having a
presence.

Quite a lot of happening:)

Cheers,
Stephen

Hello Stephen,

Thanks. Great to hear from you, :-) incredible work guys! I'm mostly blwon
away by the Firefox OS localization that of course and the calculator ^_^ .
Our localization efforts here are still low at bay, probably we'll try to
give them an adrenal boost after the this quarter.

Would love to know more about the webmaker events you're holding, it's
exciting I think. Keep going, it's awesome.

Lawrence

Hello! African Mozillians

I hope this email finds you all well today, thanks Lawrence and everyone to
hear back from you about your amazing works on Mozilla. My community was
one of those that joined the global community to welcome the latest Firefox
Browser by organized a Mozilla Australis launch. If you are currious to
know what happened during this event please read my published blog-post
here:
oarabilemudongo.blogspot.com/2014/05/firefox-launch-party-mozilla-botswana.html.
However currently we have plans of collaborating with Mozilla Zimbabwe
to
evangelize Mozilla in Southern Africa and setting up active communities. I
and Vuyisile Ndlovu are working on a Mozilla Tour to Namibia and Zambia
where we currently have no Mozilla communities.

That's all we have for now and we hope to share as time goes on our plans
and outcomes on our side.

Cheers!

Hi Orabile,

Thanks for sharing,

Keep us posted how the evangelism of the southern Africa goes and if you
need any help, we will all be glad to chime in. You and Vuyisile should
both plan to join us for MozFestEA2014.

It will be exciting to have you here.

Cheers,
San James.

Hi all.

In Zimbabwe, we've started two localisation projects for Firefox. Progress
has been rather slow as I have been very busy with work/school. A firefox
club was formed recently at a local university and I'm working with the
club lead on helping them with their first event.

So in terms of things that have actually happened, I don't have much to
report, but like Lawrence has already said , there's need to jumpstart
things here too. I'm very interested in hosting webmaker events but I'll be
honest, I have no Idea where to start, maybe you could give me tips/hints.

Concerning the MozFest, I'd definitely be interested in attending. Please
tell me more about it.
My apologies for being out of loop on so many things.
Regards

Vuyisile Ndlovu

Hi Oarabile,

Great to hear from you and about Community Botswana. I saw some of the
photos for the launch on Basecamp, ingenius. Will delve into the blog after
here.

I'm curious to know more about the Southern Africa community building
expedition/tour, tell me more about it in my mail. You and Vuyisile make me
proud and smile, I met you last year as Mozillians and today you're leading
your communities on an amazing voyage all sails up :)

I always thought there was a community in Zambia :O I have friends there
though. And how about South Africa? Great look forward to us sharing some
more :) #super-excited

Hi Oarabile,
Are you planning to visit south Africa particularly after august or before,
remember we have a tech4Africa event in august where we shall have Mozilla
presence there, I was thinking we could use this to do the Mozilla
evangelism since there will be more Reps and some Mozilla staff present.

Kind Regards

Hello Marc,

Been a while since I heard from you. How is Cameroon?

I remember about the Cyber cafe, good to know you went on with it :) About
the knowledge sharing, yes we're all here to help each other and learn from
one another.

You said you want to run webmaker party events but don't know what to start
with (start here webmaker.org) then reach out to Amira, Laura or Michelle
all their emails are copied in the cc There's even a webmaker training on
going now. And I'm available to help you as well.

Most webmaker activities do require internet but there are ways to host
them offline however since you said you don't have much technical
expertise, it might get hard. I can help you learn how to run events in a
low connection but will need to understand some more about your internet,
can your internet play a youtube video? How long does it take to load the
main mozilla.org page and do you've internet modems (dongles)? Let's start
from there.

Thanks.

*Regards,*

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to point you all to this great Lo-Fi, No-Fi Teaching Kit: https://keyboardkat.makes.org/thimble/LTIxMDA3NTY0ODA=/lofi-nofi-teaching-kit

This is especially useful to #TeachTheWeb in places where connectivity is an issue.

We’re always trying to find better ways to deal with this problem, and I think this is a first step in the right direction. However, as Lawrence said, understanding your particular situations will help us help you create better resources to #TeachTheWeb.

Super inspired by all that’s going on in Africa, and we’re very happy to help however we can.

Best,
Laura

Thank you to all for your suggestions. Here in Zimbabwe we have
connectivity challenges too but its more of a matter of expense than
availability of connections. My plan to start with is to take
advantage of tech hubs and host webmaker events there. That way I dont
have to worry about the Internet connections much.

I've checked out the webmaker.org website, gone through a couple of
teaching kits and it definitely looks doable. Right now I've asked
fellow community members here in Zimbabwe to do the same then after
that we'll have a webmaker training day. I'll reach out to Lawrence
and San James for help with this.

It would be great to throw an event where someone from EA attends, but
I think for now its important to lay a foundation by training
ourselves first (with help from all the super mentors of
course)...trying stuff out to see what works and what doesn't and
hosting a couple of events ourselves.

Thank you to all your suggestions and tips. I'll be sure to ping many
of you personally for help and guidance with this.
