Dear all,

How is everyone doing?

It has been long since I checked in. Again I feel like we're drifting apart
yet there's so much we could do together. There are so many countries here
with incredible experience that could help each other.

Can we share often our events? Talks? New reps and maybe Mozillians? Can we
even just have light moments to see how we're all doing? We've the ability
to do a lot, to achieve great things, to help our people get better access
to the web and technology.

Can we unite and help one another?

Hi Lawrence,

I think communication within African Mozillians is quite something we need
to work on. The platforms are there, we just need some streamlining.

Otherwise right now L10n Swahili is on a roll. We are now testing FXOS 2.0
on the flame device after successfully finishing the strings.

PS: The East African L10n Sprint is coming up.

Keep in touch,

Stephen

Hey All,

I reckon a start is to share some links of our social networks. Cross
following here will keep everyone in the loop with what is happening in
other communities and perhaps through that, open opportunities for
assistance or collaboration so, here goes:

For Mozilla South Africa we have:

https://twitter.com/mozillasa
https://www.facebook.com/mozillasa
https://plus.google.com/u/0/100280543989668231838/posts

And then our evolving website at mozillasa.co.za

Hi all
Yes there isn't a huge traffic on this list but it's probably because
people discuss when there's something being planned or we're sharing about
event and stuff. Maybe we should start thinking about what event we should
organize at continent level then regional and local. All of that being
discussed here on the list.
Also I usually forget posting here updates about events in Africa I
attended, or blog posts like the last one I posted about the Cape Town
event. That kind of thing can also generate some discussion or follow-up!
And why not monthly call for instance to recap, plan and discuss
activities? That would help us know more about other communities members and
activities and share experiences.
It's great to hear that there is an East African L10n Sprint coming up but
please share about it on this list. And maybe even invite external
community members who can contribute.
We definitely need some physical presence anywhere an event is taking place
so we can strengthen ties and collaboration.
Just a few quick ideas I wanted to share with you.

Cheers
Ibrahima

Hey all,

This is amazing and it is great to know that we all share similar thoughts
and the same passion towards a stronger Mozilla presence in Africa. Good
news is that starting this year, there will be more focus on Africa by
Mozilla and key people on these events are Brian King and William Q.

Stephen, awesome work from Kenya on the l10n I look forward to testing a
phone in Swahili soon. Thanks for also taking lead on the EA l10n sprint.

Thank you so much Ibrahima for your insights, they're always wise and
helpful.

Shalk, been a while since the Tech4Africa event in SA. Thanks for sharing
your links, nice content on the site, I could link you to some Mozilla
themes and codebases if you're interested.
Ours are:
twitter.com/mozcomug
facebook.com/mozillauganda
Website: mozilla-uganda.org

I also wish to inform you that we are organising Mozilla Festival East
Africa (MEA) again this year, check the site
<http://mozfestea.mozilla-uganda.org> and an overview blog here:
http://lawrencekisuuki.wordpress.com/ Feel free to start a thread here
about it to discuss further. We hoped somehow we could have more
participation from Africa this year.

Action points to maybe follow - up on:
1. Let's set up a monthly call probably starting in March. Any suggestions
on medium like Skype and time/dates?
2. Could someone lead the first call?
3. Could we share about our events and blogs more often here?
4. MozFestEA 2015, any thoughts?
5. More regional events?

Cheers and look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for the Mozilla passion!

Hi All,

Brian and William are happy to jump into a call to discuss issues affecting
the African communities and see how to help us be more productive and
effective.

I have created this planning pad to come up with a more concrete agenda and
collect more information that would be pertinent to the call. Please add to
and update accordingly.

Also, please use this doodle to indicate your availability:

Suggest a different time if that helps.

Looking forward to touch base,

Hi Guys,

I notice that only 4 of us have responded to the doodle, and the fourth
person is Brian King, now if we shy away for conversations with leadership,
we can't have a justification for the challenges we face. I want to thus,
encourage us to all respond to the doodle and make this meeting happen.

Also please update the etherpad with what you would like to discuss in the
meeting so that we have a concrete agenda.

Thanks,

Hi
Yeah San James is right, the doodle has been up for some time now and we
should at least say if we're not available for the proposed days. I also
wanted to point out that many people are not on this list and maybe don't
know about it. I would suggest adding anyone that you think is missing and
encourage them to join us. I added Camara (reps from Senegal), Niang, Fulah
contributor and my unofficial mentee), Sahalou from Mali (Head of (being
created after my events in Bamako) Mozilla Mali). Will add more?
I looked at the pad many times and thought maybe we could think of
"topics/areas" and people would add suggestion under each heading. At least
that would make it easier I think. Topics like: community building, Mozilla
products, Communication, Webmaker etc...
Thanks all and let's make it happen!

Hello Everyone,

I must apologize for delayed responce to doodle, blame it on the usual
procastination.
I'd like to think many other reps and contributors in the African community
are interested in this "Monthly" call and are ready to jump in once a
date/time is set.

The planning pad looks like the writer read my mind but phrased it better :p
The points raised by Lawrence should also be included.

@Marc - I would be interested to learn more about the "DIGITAL

with a Kenyan organization did a pilot project duped "Digital

@Oarabile - The meeting ended prematurely due to connectivity issues. Seems
Vidyo needs some decent bandwidth which is not easy to come by here.

It has been agreed between parties who were able to join that we reschedule

I think is owed to the fact that you guys by default were actually using
"video" but I just learned a few weeks ago that Vidyo like Skype does
audio.

You can disable your own video and the other video streams and this is a
bitter pill on my end since I've always been against Vidyo but it's audio
quality surpasses Skype.

Just my thoughts. Skype wouldn't be bad either but this should be clear
from beginning. Thanks
