Server: Linux, IMAP
Client: Windows XP, Thunderbird

I lost the disks in my Linux e-mail server. However, a lot of the
messages are still available in my Windows PC. When I tried to
synchronize, I discovered that the procedure consist on ERASING the
messages on the clients (since they are absent from the server). What
I want is those messages to be UPLOADED from the desktop PCs and
appended to the server mailbox.

Can this be done? How?

TIA,

-Ramon

It can indeed.

Step 1: Create a new account to access the IMAP server
Step 2: Import the old folders (With the e-mails in) into the "Local
Folders": http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_folders
Step 3: Copy the messages from the local folders into the new account.
This will then upload the messages to the IMAP server.

Thanks, Robert!!

Just to be sure (and given the potential danger of unintended
erasure):

I have an account "ramon" in the Linux server, which I access from
several desktop PCs, at office and home. I will be satisfied to upload
the messages from one PC (which has most of the stuff).

As soon as I noticed the unintended deletion of PC, I had no resort
but stopping the IMAP daemon.

You said that I should create a different accout, let's call it
"mailboxrecover" (or something). Both the "ramon" account and the
"mailboxrecover" account exist in the client PC and I export the old
folders to the "Local Folders".

The problem that I see is that at this point I have to restart the
IMAP deamon, and if I am not mistaken, it will perform some massive
deletions. Probably I should only click on the "mailboxrecover"
account??

You should create a new profile, to ensure that the client doesn't touch
the "ramon" files. Then you can build a new account on the new profile,
and import the folders from the old profile. Then once you're done
importing, you remove and delete the old profile and you're done.
