Subject: Firefox Health Report Landed in Nightly
To: "mozilla.dev.planning group" <dev-pl...@lists.mozilla.org>

The initial implementation of Firefox Health Report (FHR) has landed in
mozilla-central and should make it in Nightly soon. First, a general
disclaimer: the UX is not complete. The about: page in particular is mostly
a placeholder at the moment. Also, Firefox Health Report is only enabled on
the "browser" app (Firefox Desktop). It is disabled in the build system
everywhere else, including B2G. So, the information that follows should
only apply to Firefox Desktop.

Now, for the real reason behind this email: concerns for regressions.

We have a known shutdown crasher/staller being tracked in bug 828149 [1].
It doesn't seem to reproduce reliably except on Linux64 opt Talos jobs.
Because it's a consistent red, we've landed with Firefox Health Report
disabled on Linux. If you see a shutdown crash/stall on Nightly in the next
few days, you may want to look to FHR first.

Next, there is a chance of performance regressions, especially during
startup and shutdown. If you encounter an issue, please see the perf meta
bug, 828152 [2] and be sure it is reported.

Firefox Health Report may perform some relatively expensive operations
during some tests, including Talos. This may cause test performance to
decrease. Better Talos integration is tracked in bug 828153 [3].

The plan is to eventually enable FHR for Firefox 20 while in Aurora.
Remaining code should be uplifted in the next few days to maximize time for
localization. However, FHR will be disabled on Aurora/20 until it meets
release criteria, hopefully within a few weeks.

I (gps) am technical point for all these issues. Please don't hesitate to
CC me on bugs you feel may be related. I'm working with Vladan Djeric to
address performance concerns. All release decisions are being approved by
Alex Keybl. If you have any other questions, please direct them to Mike
Connor.
