Hi as you know , that i have become one of the many people that want to help with the localization and translation of you products.
dut ther is one major problem, we do not have an esteblished Mozilla Community HERE in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa. were as you established one's in Botswana, Kenya, ext.
i must inform you that in my community the language we speak is Afrikaans and Xhosa. i have also establish a group of young people that in fully eqiuped with different technology Skills, computers, software, programming and more. so it will be easy to form a community that can work with me. i also have professional teachers that will assist with the translation processes.

the ball is your hand and i am waiting for a response ASAP.

Hi Ashley

I am not sure if you have received any assistance, but I am willing to help you out. From your email, I gather that you want to form a community in PE.
My question to you is what exactly do you have in mind? Is there a particular field or contribution point you'd like to focus on? Or do you just want to bring all the different minds together and get all to contribute as a group to mozilla?

There are a number of contribution paths you and your group could follow e.g
1) The Webmaker program (webmaker.org)
2. Translation (https://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n) or
3. Marketing just to name a few. (https://wiki.mozilla.org/StudentAmbassadors)

Please let me know what interests you the most and I'll be sure to help you get started. Cheers
Vuyisile

We need more Marketing in South Africa. The open source community is
big but I've never met anyone else who's a member of the Mozilla
Foundation from my country, besides some people on this group.

So let me know because I have a network of web developers, bloggers
and IT geeks in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and also PE.

Hi Ramon

That's great to hear. If this network of IT geeks would be willing to contribute to Mozilla, that would really be awesome.
You're right, we need more marketing, not just in SA, but in Southern Africa as a whole. Would you be willing to work on marketing or organising a hack jam or similar event in the cities you mentioned?

The Mozilla Reps program has some pretty good resources for Community Building and Marketing that you are free to use.
Check them out here:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/ReMo/Tools_and_Resources

It would be great to see this develop into something big.
I look forward to hearing back from you.

cheers

Hey Vuyisile I tried to reach out a while ago to this community and
Mozilla Foundation but the response was slow. In September I moved to
China to do my MBA degree and will be here for > 2 years.

So I cannot get directly involved. You may add me on Skype:
ramon.thomas and I will be happy to do introductions to people and
organisations who already use open source / free software in South
Africa. You may all connect with me here:

On behalf of the community, I'd like to apologise for the slow response. This mailing list isn't very active and I plan to change that.

I will be sure to get in touch with you and get introduced to the people you mentioned.
