Hi Bacely,

There are many ways to start a Mozilla Community in your area.  Here are a few ideas:

Start a localization team if a language you speak isn't already localized, do user support for your area, organize events in your community to help people understand more about Mozilla's mission and products.
I think http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/contribute/ is a great place to start and I'm happy to help answer more questions once you've looked into contribution opportunities and have a sense of what you are interested in.

Cheers,
Lukas

One thing that seems to work really well in Africa are tours, like the Kenya guys did at http://www.mozilla-kenya.org/blog/29-moztour-rwanda (and fellow posts).

Hey Bacely,

Just seeing this.

In my experience, the best way to start a community is from a series of meetups and events with friends and colleagues who share a similar interest in Mozilla as you. Once you have a small group of people who always/frequently turn up for meetups and a good organizational structure, then you have a community :) which Mozilla can support by providing communication infrastructure (local mailing list and/or website) and events resources (presentation material, swag etc)

So some ideas on events/activities you can organize for a local community:
  • One of the most popular and sustainable (there's always something to localize) activities communities get involved in is localization; you can check that out here: [1].
  • For this year, Mozilla is focusing on Firefox for Desktop and mobile and B2G (Firefox OS (mobile)), so any events/activities around this are great to consider
  • You can checkout stuff being done by Mozillians around the globe here: [2]
  • I'd also suggest you consider participating in the Mozilla summer Code party [3]. as a start

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll be happy to assist
