I saw Dave's post about encouraging community growth in Africa and I
wanted to let everyone here know about the Mozilla In Africa and the
Middle East page at:

http://www.mozilla.org/contribute/local/africamideast.html

These regional maps are new and they are meant to be a resource for
growing community in specific geographic areas.

The page provides a way to identify local sites in certain areas, but
it can also be used to promote specific opportunities or needs in an
area as well. For instance, the two promo areas under the map could
be used to promote a localization effort or local meetups throughout
Africa.

If anyone here wants to help drive this page, that would be great.
I'd love to see people involved in these areas take use these to help
meet their specific needs.

Thanks David, yeah that's a cool way to view activity in the region!

The idea of using the two promo areas for events and "help needed"
sounds great. How can we set that up in a way that the moz-africa
community can drive? Do those promo areas have some community-editable
datasource that we could point people at?

Right now those promos are just in the HTML and I can update it if
anyone sends me information to add or files a www.mozilla.org bug. We
can look at making it more flexible in the future.

Hey David,

So I've been invited to Uganda next week as a keynote speaker on
behalf of Mozilla where a team of localizers have setup an event to
mark the launch of Firefox in Luganda. I think it would be great if
the event got focus here. Let me know if this is possible.

Alex.

Of course. I'd be happy to include that there.

If you're interested, I could walk you through the process of updating
that page and we could work toward getting you commit access to the
site so you could update the page directly whenever something like
this comes up.

To get that process started, just file a bug at the link below and
we'll go from there.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Websites&component=www.mozilla.org

Or you could send me some text and a link about the event and I could
update it.

Hi David,

Just filed the bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688228

And yah, a walk through on how to update events here would be great.
