I was getting the error message anytime I opened a file. Then when it was time to save, I got the message again and it would not allow me to save. AcroCEF.exe Application Error. The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.
I was originally having this problem with Acrobat so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Still trouble. I then uninstalled and deleted every darn thing that had anything to do with Acrobat, restarted, and reinstalled. Then I uninstalled with Microsoft Fix-it which I found that someone suggested because sometimes some files get left behind. Same problem.

(d) Can you also share the crash dump to analyze it? You need to enable WER so that we can have the dump saved when you see the crash. For this you need to create 2 reg keys for specifying DumpFolder and DumpType (details at ). For the "DumpFolder", you can create a folder, say c:\dumps and specify this path in regkey. For "DumpType", specify the value 2. Now when you observe the crash, a dump file will be created at c:\dumps folder. Please share this dump with us to analyze the reason for crash.
Which tip worked for you, the Ranger3b one where the app is run as an administrator (and hopefully we don't fully or properly unleash malware on our network) or the one where you rename the files in question and this then prevents you from ever using the sign and forward features?
I am only aware that this is an issue because we have Palo Alto firewalls here and we also use Palo Alto Traps. Every day this one user lights up my malware displays on the firewall and Traps launches whenever he tries to use Adobe reader. McAfee does not catch any malware either when it's running live or it's got a full scan. Spy Bot also doesn't catch it so I'm left wondering if this is a false positive and if it is, do I just live with it as more and more users exhibit the same behavior.
I am having the same problem. ON all Acrobat dc programs, I get the windows error message 0xc00000@5. I have been on chat with Adobe 2 times and no success. I have done a clean uninstall then reinstall, done all the resets recommended during the chats and just tried the Shag9948 suggestions with no success. I really want this program to work since it is better for my needs than all the others I have tried but will soon cancel my subscription if no resolution. Please help!
Has anyone got a resolution for this? I have come across this same issue and I am completely stuck. I have tried suggestions from other threads. I get the error anytime I open a PDF and doing a save as. I have tried to remove the "Check Cloud Storage" settings from Acrobat but it had no affect. I could really use some help.
AcroCEF.exe or RdrCEF.exe is a detachable process of Acrobat or Reader. It takes care of multiple reader services(like Fill and Sign, Document Cloud, Send For Signature, Send and Track, Create PDF, Export PDF, etc.) of the product. If you disable it by renaming/deleting RdrCEF.exe(which is highly not recommended), it would lead you to lack of functionalities.
Well ok then I need a solution. This has just started on my PC and I am not savvy to go changing names and I have gone through the updates. If it has just started on my computer it is safe to say a reinstall would not help. Soo....Recommendations?
All of my users of Acrobat Pro DC are experiencing the same thing when starting the application as of the latest version 23.008.20458. They receive the 'AcroCEF Has Stopped Working' error within seconds of opening the application (whether they have a file open or not) and repeatedly as long as the application is open which is making it very difficult to do any work with Acrobat.
Updated to latest release 23.008.20470 that came out yesterday 1/16/2024 and that did not resolve the issue. Started a support case with Adobe 2 days ago and they wanted to walk through troubleshooting with a user so I provided them with contact information for an applicable user and have yet to receive any assistance since and have followed up on the case daily.
We could really use a solution from Adobe; even if it means installing a prior version or something. Some direction aside from the usual repair, reinstall, cleaner tool suggestions that don't resolve this. Any workarounds to keep users operational would be appreciated.
We noticed that giving full control rights to folder Adobe fixes the issue for user. We want to refrain from giving full access to users. Maybe there is a specific set of folders or files which we can set to modify for adobe to work? We ran ProcessMonitor and noticed that some of the folders and files receive access denied message when running Adobe. The error disappears when giving full control.
The AcroCEF.exe or RdrCEF.exe application error may also be caused by your third-party antivirus application. Since the third-party antivirus application hooks very deep into your system, it may interfere with Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
Repairing corrupted or damaged system files could help fix application errors like AcroCEF.exe and RdrCEF.exe. This is because the integrity of Windows system files are essential for proper operation and stability, while errors in critical system files can cause crashes, freezes, and problems that affect application performance.
By repairing the core Windows system files, it may resolve conflicts, missing DLL issues, registry errors, and other problems that contribute to instability in applications. Tools like Fortect can automate the repair process by scanning system files and replacing corrupted ones.
Thanks for reading the post. Hope the above fixes help to solve the AcroCEF.exe and the RdrCEF.exe application errors for you. If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment below.
Acrobat DC has recently automatically updated itself from 32bit to 64bit, now when we open DC on the Terminal Server we get the error Adobe AcroCEF has stopped working and the following error in the eventlog. This happens on all terminal servers with the latest 64bit Adobe DC installed.
I have tried both options here after reinstalling and AcroCEF still crashes. I have had to completely remove 64bit version from all terminal servers and disable Automatic updates via the registry as there is no option to disable in the program. I would like to keep Adobe up to date but not if it's going to break my Citrix application servers. Please advise. Thanks
About 2 weeks ago, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC 2015.006.30565 started displaying the message "AcroCEF.exe - Application Error The application was unable to start correctly (0x0000007b), Click OK to close the application", If I click OK six times the message disappears and Acrobat appears to open normally. However, as time passed Acrobat started displaying anomalous behavior like documents displaying red question marks and the inability to save documents. These problems grew worse.
I tried running a Help/Repair it started, but it apparently did not complete. I downloaded a fresh install and ran it. The application error (0x0000007b) is still occurring, but many of the problems are not happening. However, if I modify a document and try to do a "Save as" it still brings up a blank window with only the header displayed, rather than prompting for a location and name.
The acrocef.exe error is a common issue that can affect your system. This error is related to the Adobe Acrobat software and can cause various problems. When the acrocef.exe error occurs, you may experience slow system performance, crashes, or freezes.
To fix this error, you can try several troubleshooting steps. First, you can use the Task Manager to end the acrocef.exe process if it is running. Then, you can uninstall and reinstall Adobe Acrobat to ensure that the software is properly installed.

In some cases, third-party software components such as antivirus programs like Avast can interfere with Acrobat Reader and cause the acrocef.exe error. Temporarily disabling or uninstalling these programs may help resolve the issue.
