Just a few films you may find of interest (rated * to ****)

Saturday 0906
*** THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (US 1960) C31, 1820-2100; Yul Brynner,
Steve McQueen, Eli Wallach, James Coburn, Horst Buchholz, Charles
Bronson, Robert Vaughn.
** CHARLOTTE GRAY (UK/Austral 2002) C14, 2200-0025; Cate Blanchett,
Billy Crudup, Michael Gambon, Rupert Penry-Jones, James Fleet, Abigail
Cruttenden.

Sunday 1006
*** SOMERS TOWN (UK 2008) C1EWS, 0030-0138; Thomas Turgoose, Pietr
Jagiello, Perry Benson, Elisa Lasowski, Kate Dickie; Director Shane
Meadows' best film to date has teenage TT running away from Nottingham
to London – where he is beaten up but befriends Polish PJ and falls
for French EL.

Monday 1106
***½ SABRINA / Sabrina Fair (US 1954) C15, 1645-1905; Humphrey Bogart,
Audrey Hepburn, William Holden, John Williams.
**½ CANDY (Austral 2006) C4, 0205-0350; Abbie Cornish, Heath Ledger,
Geoffrey Rush, Noni Hazlehurst, Tony Martin, Tara Morice.

Tuesday 1206
***½ THE GODFATHER (US 1971) C15, 2100-0025; Marlon Brando, Al Pacino,
Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, James Caan.
**½ SMALL TIME (UK 1996) C15, 0240-0355; Mat Hand, Shane Meadows, Gena
Kawecka; Director Shane Meadows' debut isn't the dead movie about
deadbeats you might expect. It's more of a 21st Century "That Sinking
Feeling", with bored Nottingham teenagers planning a robbery. Tightly
scripted and well performed.

Wednesday 1306
**½ A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (UK/US 1972) C24, 0010-0250; Malcolm McDowell,
Patrick Magee, Adrienne Corri, Aubrey Morris, Michael Bates.
**½ THE BALLAD OF JACK AND ROSE (US 2005) C15, 0145-0350; Camilla
Belle, Daniel Day-Lewis, Catherine Keener, Beau Bridges, Jena Malone;
With DDL and daughter CB all that remain of a hippy commune (in 1986)
and developer BB buying up their land, the stage is set for a
showdown. Unfortunately, writer-director Rebecca Miller is more
interested in the chaff than the wheat, so this is lovely to look at
and listen to but the narrative is lackadaisical and doesn't bring out
any tension.

Friday 1506
**½ A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (UK/US 1972) C24, 2305-0150; Malcolm McDowell,
Patrick Magee, Adrienne Corri, Aubrey Morris, Michael Bates.
