How can we design interactions with physical activity data that account for the complex embodied experiences that data inherently simplifies? How can we appropriate our fitness trackers and wearable devices beyond pre-defined metrics and static data visualizations?
Join us for a one-day workshop at ACM DIS 2026 Conference as we unpack, explore, and critique the entanglements between our bodies, our data, and the digital technologies we use and appropriate when we move.
Moving and Crafting Data Together: Critical and Feminist Perspectives on Technologies for Movement through Movement
Saturday, June 13th, 2026.
@ DIS2026
In the workshop, we will move, datafy our activity, and craft creative representations of our data as a starting point for reflection, critique, and discussion: How can we grasp, sense, control, and enjoy data, while staying true to critical feminist values?
To take part, we ask for a short story or data representation describing a day of movement and subsequent data in your daily life. Find the submission instructions and more information on our website: https://armagank.com/dis-2026-workshop/
Organizers: Alejandra Gómez Ortega, Alice Haynes, Laia Turmo Vidal, Beatrice Vincenzi, Irene Kaklopoulou, José Manuel Vega-Cebrián, Samuel Huron, Armağan Karahanoğlu
