Dear colleagues,
as part of the established tradition of movement analysis workshops at the GIScience conference (
https://giscience.org/), we are organising the Disruptive Movement Analysis workshop (DMA 2023).
The objective of our workshop is to ‘disrupt’ the status quo of modern movement analysis. In recent years, we have witnessed major shifts in human mobility and animal activity patterns in response to disruptive environmental events
(e.g., natural disasters, pandemics, etc.). To really develop new insights into the spatial-temporal patterns of movement, we need novel, radical ideas that direct the field into exciting new directions. This workshop will focus on collecting researchers interested
in developing new methods, applications, and insights using modern movement data. We are interested in work dealing with any type of moving object (e.g., people, animals, vehicles, viruses, goods etc.), with application in any domain (e.g., health, transportation,
wildlife ecology, sports, marine, outdoor recreation, fitness, epidemiology, etc.).
We are inviting short papers (vision or research) on disruptive movement analysis, and the workshop will also feature a competition for the best student papers and a data challenge.
The workshop will take place on 12 Sept 2023 in Leeds, UK, this is the day before the main GIScience conference starts. Note that there is no separate registration fee for the workshops this year, they are included in the main conference
fee.
More info in the attached Call for Papers and on the workshop website:
After the workshop the authors will be invited to extend their contributions for a special issue of the International Journal of Geographical Information Science. The top 2 student papers from the workshop will be automatically advanced
to this special issue. The issue will not be limited to the workshop participants and anyone interested in the topic can submit contributions. Call for papers will be published after the workshop.
Please pass on this message to anyone who might be interested.
Join us in Leeds, we are looking forward to your contributions!
